The goal of politics as stated in the Republic was for Philosopher kings to fully understand morality (Republic, page 203), and every individual doing their ascribed responsibly to the best of their ability which per Republic is a feature of morality (Republic, page 133). The goal of politics for Machiavelli is to achieve and maintain power. The Prince is essentially a guide on how to become and preserve your position in politics that still applies to contemporary politics. A good number of American citizens would consider that some of our politicians are cunning manipulative liars who
