The term revenge is prevalent in the play Hamlet multiple times. My definition of revenge is the desire to get back at someone for something they have done to that person. This term is throughout the whole play. One of the first times that the concept is mentioned is when Hamlet finds out about his father being killed.
While some might think that Hamlet felt violence and bitterness throughout the entire play, Hamlet develops emotionally and mentally as a character, allowing him to become a better person than who he was at the start. Throughout Hamlet’s journey, emotions such as violence, fear, and anger drive his motives; he keeps portraying his actions as just, when in reality, it is pure revenge. Firstly, Hamlet is a play of a man by the name of Hamlet, whose father was murdered by Claudius, his uncle. Claudius murdered the king by pouring poison in his ear to claim the throne for himself. Moreover, the ability to relate to a modern day high school student is an especially difficult task that many novels of the past struggle with. However, there are a select few literary works that preach universal lessons, and stand the test of time. William Shakespeare’s Hamlet is one of the few texts that effectively relates to teenagers of the past, present, and future. The struggle to recover from a tragedy, and the repercussions of revenge are two concepts explored in Hamlet which the vast majority of teenagers can relate and sympathize with.
Revenge is the desire to inflict harm on one who has wronged someone else. In many cases, revenge is motivated by a desire to make a person receive payback for their wrongdoings. A person can either forget and carry on with their life or allow sin to fill themselves with anger and a thirst for revenge. In the tragedy, Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Hamlet has a strong suspicion that his father’s death was a murder by his uncle, Claudius because a ghost had told him so. Hamlet’s depression transitions into an intense desire to avenge his great father, Hamlet becomes consumed with the past as everyone around him moves on into the future.
Throughout the story, there are many times where violence seems as if it is the only way to solve the problem. The violence is this story is significant to the meaning of the story as a whole because the story starts out with an act of violence, placing the royal family at the funeral of their own king. Suicide, murder, and execution are all forms of violence portrayed in this work. Hamlet himself portrays many different acts of violence in this work such as murder and physical harassment. Violence is a major theme in Hamlet because without it, there would never be an end to the story because no one could ever get the revenge and justice they felt needed.
By the end of the play, Shakespeare shows how all of the characters attempt to get their revenge and how revenge does not always work out for the best. Hamlet is the main character of the play and it seems as if everything he does is based off his wanting to revenge Claudius for killing
It was also very much clear he was not mad that he could not forget his love for "Ophelia"till last. When his be loved"Ophelia",who was the part and parcel and apple of eye for him,she was on death-bed,and when,all of sudden,she died,he felt the severe pain in his heart,his life was jolted. He became the victim of internal injuries,which were unexpressable and un-bearable,but faced that lethel shock boldly and participated in the funeral procession of his beloved. His normality was graphic,when he uttered the dialouges,at the burial ceremony of "Ophelia", Brother of ophelia said, "I love you ophelia" but,Hamlet reaplied splendidly that: "I love her more than 40 thousand brothers". It shows that he is performing the role of mad one .
