Gandhi Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was the main force of “rebellion” against Britain, as the leader of India’s independent movement. He is now widely known for his non-violent protests and fasts. Gandhi believed that “with love, discussion, and compassion problems can be solved quicker” than with violence. His ideas of solving problems peacefully with words impacted a multitude of people, some being Martin Luther King Jr., Howard Gardner, and Aung San Suu Kyi. The manner in which Gandhi’s words impacted these individuals ingrained in them a manner of thinking about the problems the world and them face and how to go about solving it. Aung Sang Suu Kyi is one example of a person who was impacted by the words Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. She saw his determination and fearlessness to “fight” against what he thought was wrong or immoral, and she used that as inspiration to fuel her own ideas of facing fear and not being oppressed by it. She goes on to give explanations of how fear runs and oppresses people, “Fear of losing power corrupts those who have it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it”. This can explain a cycle of fear that might be or have been used in oppressive governments in history. The person in charge being afraid that everything they have will be taken away from them by those who are beneath them, causing the person in charge to oppress or strike fear into their hearts to keep them in check. Then that act causes the people who are being oppressed to revolt or have some sort of uproar because of their fear of the person in charge of their government, which goes back and gives fear back to the person in charge. It is a horrible cycle can be broken, for if one knows truly what is just and has knowledge and understanding of people feelings they can make a breakthrough.
