There are so many topics I believe that Richard Wright would've talked about today that it is hard to narrow down to just three. If someone told him that we would have a black president in the next century we definitely would have looked at you like you were crazy but if he were here today he would be proud of how much better we have come today. We have improved as a country today for equal rights and treatment of black people but we also still have a long way to go for we are not perfect. For example he would be very ashamed how black people are still getting killed just because of their skin color. He would also be disappointed that blacks are still getting paid less statistically less than whites considering how many jobs Richard had growing up.
Jacob Womack was born May 17, 1997 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. His mom is Christina Pettigrew and Father Jesse Womack. He lived in Prairie Grove, Arkansas for the first part of his childhood but then moved to West Fork, Arkansas when he started school. Next, drug testing recipients is not a good use for taxpayer money. Florida started enforcing drug tests so taxpayers would know their money was not being wasted. and of the 800 people tested, only one person tested positive (Cunha). If they tested 800 people and only one tested positive-that is a waste of money. Drug testing individuals costs more than it saves (Cunha).
Drugs are a big issue in the sports industry. Many athletes will take performance-enhancing drugs, such as steroids, to help them play better. These types of drugs should not be allowed because it gives the player a greater advantage over other players who are playing with their natural ability. This issue could be solved if there was monthly drug testing and if the drug was not so easy to get ahold of. Many major league baseball players are getting caught using performance-enhancing drugs.
One side to this controversy would be that because of the screenings it would lower and prevent the use of drugs in poverty struck households. Many law officials believe that if a user had to submit to drug test they would get clean because the need for the government assistance would be of greater priority than abusing illegal drugs. Though this may be true in some situations, poor social classes are not the only citizens abusing drugs. It is well known that drugs are abused by people of all social classes. America needs to broaden their view point on this social matter because it effects everyone, not just those who live in poverty.
Larry’s speech was very interesting it had information I had no idea about. For example I did not know that not sleeping the correct amount of hours can cause a rash. I sometimes do not sleep the right hours but I have never got a rash before hopefully I never do lol. Our body’s need sleep and rest at times even if sometimes we think we are not tired.
Inspired to Make Changes It takes a person who has great morals and high integrity to make a change in the world. Making a change in the world is not easy, so it takes someone who is strong and willing to put time and effort into doing so. Martin Luther King Jr. has shaped history, he has inspired me to want to make changes to the world, and I will take those inspirations and make a lasting impression on the future. In David Foster Wallace’s “ Kenyon Commencement Speech,” he discusses the importance of liberal arts education in “teaching you how to think” (Wallace, 199). He mentions how education is beyond the knowledge we learn, but about simple awareness will impact the choices we make for better or worse. The real value of education cannot be found in a career (you may or may not be fired from), but it can be found in the way you view things through a different perspective and by considering how other factors can contribute to everyday life. This new approach in thinking will allow us to appreciate our lives and overcome our inner “default setting” towards the world (Wallace, 199). I agree with Wallace’s argument because the purpose of higher education should not be about having career-specific skills and obtaining a degree, but about intellectual and personal growth will help us survive in the real world.
FLHD 1500 Can One Person Change the World? I definitely believe that it only takes one person to impact the word, make a huge difference and change it a better place. That this one person even if not being able to do a lot materially to change the world, still has the power to inspire others and help that person changes the world. It may be hard to believe, but I have a strong belief that one person can set an example for others that may affect the outcome of any and every situation. I always ask myself this question and as Maya Angelou once said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” and that is absolutely true.
