Malala Yousafzai, a changemaker from a young age, was born in Mingora, Pakistan on July 12th, 1997. An armed Taliban walked into the school van and fired four bullets at the girls, one hitting Malala in the head. It narrowly missed her brain and she was transferred to Birmingham Hospital in England. She underwent several surgeries and was not expected to survive. Miraculously, she did. Malala was sent thousands of gifts and get well cards from people all around the world, in which she states helped her with her recovery. After she was fully recovered, she received person of the year runner up two years later. This was a huge achievement for such a young age, only aged 17 . She also won several awards previously, and after winning the Pakistan Youth Peace Prize Award, it was renamed the Malala Peace Prize.
