Introduction Robert James Lee Hawke was born on the 9th of December 1929 at Bordertown, South Australia. Robert Hawke was the 23rd prime minister of Australia, being in office for the longest period of time. He had been the Australian prime minister for eight years and has contributed immensely to the Australian society throughout his political career. As a prime minister, two of the most significant contributions he made were the Economic Summit of 1983 which produced a “Wages Accord” with trade unions and reforming the Australia’s education and training system. The accord improved economic growth with inflation and cut real wages.
Later on, he worked with Gerorge Huston who was a premier and tried to persuade the NSW voters to establish the federation. Therefore, the second referendum was carried out from April to July in 1899 and was accepted by South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and NSW . Queensland elected for the first time on 2 September and accepted the
Democrat Samuel Tilden won a clear majority of the popular vote and needed only one electoral vote from the contested returns of three states in order to beat Republican Rutherford B. Hayes. An electoral commission was temporarily created to determine who would receive the contested returns, but the electoral commission had a Republican majority. Therefore, the electoral commission gave all the electoral votes to Hayes, angering Democrats because Tilden needed only one vote to win, while Hayes ended up winning the electoral vote. The results of this election were resolved peacefully by the Compromise of 1877.
The real purpose of the referendum was to make two changes to the Australian Constitution. These changes enabled the Commonwealth Government to: a) make laws for all of the Australian people by amending s51of the Constitution, (previously people of 'the Aboriginal race in any State ' were excluded). b) take account of Aboriginal people in determining the population of Australia by repealing s127 of the Constitution (formerly, Indigenous people had been haphazardly included in the census but not counted for the purposes of Commonwealth funding grants to the states or territories. From 1967, Indigenous people were counted in the census and included in base figures for Commonwealth funding granted to the states and territories on a per capita
Toward the beginning of Ray Bradbury’s, Something Wicked This Way Comes, William Halloway was often associated with dramatic irony to show his deficient understanding of the carnival’s operation but verbal irony to show that he was also suspicious of the carnival. Dramatic irony is evident when Will and Jim question the whereabouts of the lighting rod salesman, like when one of them said, “Storm never came. But he went.”(Bradbury70) then the other said, “Where? And why did he leave his bag?”(70), and finally, “What’s so important you forget everything?”(70).
To begin with, the role models of both Wes’ has positively and negatively impacted their future. In regards to the author Wes, his mother, Joy, played a huge role in Wes life because she pushed and motivated Wes to do well in school regardless of the environment he was living in and the financial issues his family was facing. As Joy explained, “ ‘Well, your grades obviously aren’t bad because you can’t pick this stuff up or because you are stupid, you are just not working hard enough’ ” (The Other Wes Moore 76). When Joy started to notice that Wes skipped school, she needed to take action to prevent Wes from making bad decisions for his future, such as becoming a drug dealer.

As the world grew more populated, to many Australians it seemed that Great Britain was both a physically long way and also very different to Australia. The Australia of pre World War II was now very different to the Australia colonised by the British so many years earlier. In 1919, Australia had, for the very first time, been considered a fully self-governing nation and was asked independently of Great Britain to be a part of the Treaty of Versailles (Carrodus, Delany and McArthur, 2012). Prior to this, Britain was responsible for all political agreements for Australia (Museum of Australian Democracy).
The substantial controversy enveloping the many accomplishments of the Gillard governments (2010-2013) has resulted in the establishment of a highly criticised legacy which, when assessed, is acknowledged as both positive and negative in Australian political history. Within a brief term, Gillard attained many considerable successes regarding legislative achievements (Curtin, 2015, pp.193) and established a global, feminist legacy. There has been, however, a negative impact on these achievements and ultimately the Gillard government’s legacy from a parliamentary democratic perspective. Julia Gillard’s contentious rise and fall in prime ministership has produced a negative legacy in Australia history, which overshadows the successes of this
An Australian Republic is about us — not the Queen, not Prince Charles or the world economy. We should do it now, without delay. As Nelson Mandela once said, “ For to be free is not merely to cast off one 's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” Until we break our last Constitutional links to the mother country, our nationhood is incomplete. Now after just over 115 years of Federation, Australia must finally join the world of nations as a full equal, unshackled to any other nation.
After the election, the candidate who won was General Ulysses S. Grant. Therefore the republican party won the presidential election. In total, Ulysses S. Grant had gathered 214 electoral votes, where as Horatio Seymour had only a total of 80 electoral votes. At the time the presidential candidate only needed 214 electoral votes to win the presidency because not all of the 50 states were established at the time. In the year 1868 there was only a total of 294 electoral votes.
The outcome of this election was a victory for Burr.
