Edmund Barton was the first prime Minister of Australia. He was a persistence person who worked hard for something he believed strongly and started to transform six colonies to join together into one nation. Edmund Barton was born on 18 January 1849. He was the youngest son of an English immigration parents. From 1856 to 1858 , he studied at Fort Street School and he was known as “Toby “ to his schoolmates. After that, Edmund moved to Sydney Grammar School where he was school captain from 1863 to 1864. Being at this school, Edmund made his long lasting friendship with Richard O’Connor. He came to see Newcastle with his team where he met his wife, Jean Ross. Therefore, he married Jean Ross on 28 December 1877. The same year of his marriage, he got involved in NSW colonies politics . By the time he was 34 years old, he had become the youngest speaker. He could control the disorderly members by removing them from the floor of Parliament. From 1887 to 1891, he was appointed to be a member of Legislative Council. Edmund was a person who strongly believed in Australia’s destiny as nation that is why he worked hard to develop a constitution of Federation. From 1893 to 1897 , he had spoken out at 300 meeting in NSW . He and his believers carried out a strong pro-federation to push on federation referendum. The constitution was agreed by large numbers in South Australia,Tasmania and Victoria, but it had not accepted in NSW . Later on, he worked with Gerorge Huston who was a premier and tried to persuade the NSW voters to establish the federation. Therefore, the second referendum was carried out from April to July in 1899 and was accepted by South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and NSW . Queensland elected for the first time on 2 September and accepted the
