Thesis: In “The Autobiography of Malcolm X”, Malcolm X in his telling of his life to Alex Haley uncovers the theme of positive and negative environments unearthed by the interaction of African Americans and White Americans in his life and what those kinds of environments inherently produce. This shows, as described by the cited work, what a man pushed by his negative interactions with the oppressive white men is willing to do to find his identity (i.e. through hustling).
In the 1960, in america during the civil war movement two leaders emerged wanting freedom but both had different views on how to achieve that goal. The first man was Martin Luther King Jr. and believed in more peaceful tactics while the other man Malcolm X believed more of a violent approach and shared his very well observed hate towards mostly the white man. I will be showing you why Martin Luther King Jr.’s philosophy is the most accurate way to accomplish the goal of freedom thru the works of non violent responses, boycotts, and demanding equality. The first reason was his approach to the white men when they try to harm African Americans or break them down.
Did Martin Luther King Jr have a better philosophy than Malcolm X? Martin Luther King Jr was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta Gorgia, he passed an entrance exam to Morehouse University at the age of 15 and studied the beliefs and non-violent tactics of Mahatma Ghandhi. Was Martin Luther King Jr’s Philosophy more effective than Malcolm X’s philosophy? Martin Luther King Jr had the better philosophy because of his economic strategy to slowly achieve racial equality, his ideas on why people should take a non-violent stance as a method of protest, and his drive and dream of better more equal society and education.
America is associated with words such as freedom, and bravery but the american experience is much deeper, it's about self-discovery, opportunity, and discovering what being an American really means. The American experience is unique and varies for each person whether it be a soldier, an immigrant, or a criminal turned civil rights activist. In both The things They Carried by Tim O’brien and The Autobiography of Malcolm X, the main characters experience challenges and self-discovery through their own American experiences. These experiences include struggle with moral dilemmas, religion and achieving the american dream.
Due to Malcolm X’s struggles in his early life, he dealt with an internal anger and resentment towards the white race, which lead to him rebelling and acting out. When Malcolm X was only 6 years old, criminals murdered his father and sparked an internal flame of hatred. His anger convinced him to commit various crimes such as stealing. This acted as a way to rebel against his family and the white community; he would not accept going unnoticed, nor would he accept others as they treated him as inferior. Not only did young Malcolm steal, but he also fought frequently with his family members.
One of these unique qualities was shown when Malcolm was in prison his innovative style of doing things. Another one of Malcolm’s qualities was his determination to accomplish something he wanted to do. Malcolm’s final leadership quality was his intelligence. Malcolm’s innovative style of doing thing for example he did this by getting things done with the little supplies and time he had. An example of this is how he learned to read and write, Malcolm copies down the whole dictionary one page at a time so he could improve his penmanship, Malcolm also read the words out loud to himself so he would remember them and their meanings.
On April 3rd, 1964, civil rights leader Malcolm X delivered a famous speech, “The Ballot or the Bullet” at Cory Methodist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. Malcolm X advocated his famous speech aiming toward African Americans implying their right to vote, and serving the right to bare arms if inequality acted upon them. Americans were captured by Malcolm’s speech but saw him as a threat to his words for action. Malcolm was able to tribute both his hardships and reflected accomplishments in his fight for racial justice as an African American religious leader who also taught the value of self-reliance and pride as a civil rights activist. Over the course of the American history, black people were oppressed and treated unfairly. A few ways that society treated black people is by segregating them from white people, beating them up, and taking advantage of them. As a consequence, African Americans grew up in an environment were limited in their abilities, had hatred towards the white, and had a constant judgment from white people. These factors contributed towards the way society viewed African Americans, flawed, uneducated, and poor. Yet, a notable person who overcame these obstacles and made the most out of his experiences was Malcolm X. He made a dramatic change not only in American history but in African American rights.
Public schools in many ways are comparable to prisons. However, internal motivation something that cannot be trained or taught. Signaled, in Malcolm's autobiography, a man with a limited education that achieved a high level of literacy and education all attained by his self-education. More importantly, because of his internal strong motivation to learn . Prison for Malcolm was like a blessing in disguise for him, inside prison Malcolm's world opened up, possibly the best years of his life were spent inside a prison cell Although, Malcolm's internal motivation and self empowerment both can be attributed to some of his peers in prison like Bimbi, still, the true internal motivational inspiration Malcolm possessed was an innate hunger for knowledge and a strong desire to express his thoughts in writing.
Malcolm X “You can’t separate peace from freedom, because nobody can be at peace unless he has his freedom.” These words came from the mouth of Malcolm X, but who was he? Some people call him deranged, others call him too radical. But truthfully, Malcolm X was one of the most influential African Americans in history.
Malcolm X was an American Muslim leader who contributed to the Civil Rights Movement by spreading his ideas of black nationalism in the 1950s and early ’60s. He was an influential figure in a black Islamic organization, Nation of Islam, and served as a spokesperson for the organization. He was assassinated on February 21, 1965 while making a speech in Harlem. After his death, his life story was made well-known through his autobiography, The Autobiography of Malcolm X (1965) (Mamiya 1). Malcolm X is a man whose background and activism contributed to the Civil Rights Movement and America as a whole.
Frederick Douglass and Malcolm X were great revolutionary leaders. Their motives inspired others to be against the segregated 20th century. Frederick Douglass is famous for writing “Learning to Read”. The intended audience would have been anyone. Learning to Read was written in 1845 and it is a narrative.
Introduction: Malcom X urges the Negro community to fight to gain the equal rights they deserve by taking action against their white oppressors. He emphasizes that blacks will gain their rights either thorough voting, with the ballot, or else through the inevitable violence with the bullet. The most important decision of a leader is the style of leading they decide to use when inspiring others, or providing a vision for the future. By looking at the past, it is proven that some leadership styles are guaranteed to be more effective than others. The leadership style of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X during the Civil Rights provides significant evidence of how different styles of leading can turn out to be a major success or defeat. Malcolm X’s leadership style included using violence to protest against violence and unequal rights, as well as supporting the segregation of African Americans and the whites. Martin Luther King’s style included nonviolent marches and protests against violence, and peacefully fighting for integrating
What makes a leader? I believe a leader to be intelligent ,tough, and has the determination to achieve a goal. Having certain skills will have an impact on you being a trustable leader. Being selfless and caring are also characteristics. Malcolm X his birth name Malcolm Little is a fine a example of a leader and has most of these leadership qualities.
