Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little, was an African-American Muslim minister and human rights activist. He was born May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was orphaned early in life: his father was killed when he was six years old and his mother was placed in a mental hospital when he was thirteen. It entailed that he lived in a series of foster homes. When he was 20 years old he went to prison for larceny, breaking and entering. While he was in prison, he became a member of the Nation of Islam (NOI).
The Nation of Islam, abbreviated as NOI, is an African American political and religious movement. It was founded on July 4 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, United States by Wallance D. Fard Muhammed. The movement’s started aim was to improve the spiritual, mental, social, and economic condition of African Americans in the United States and all of humanity. In June 1934, the leader at the time Fard disappeared. The movement was now led by Elijah Muhammad. He established places of worship, which was called Temples of Mosques. Additionally, he established farms, estate holdings in the US and abroad and a school named Muhammed University of Islam.

He served as the public face of the group in many years, and he was very proud of the organisation. He was also very proud of some of the social achievements the organisation achieved: among other things, free drug rehabilitation program. The organisation advocated the separation of black and white Americans.
During Elijah Muhammed’s leadership of the organisation there were a number of splits and splinter groups, especially the departure of Malcolm X. Malcolm X left the movement to become a Sunni
