Malcolm X addressed African Americans in Detroit and Savio delivered his speech on the steps at Sproul Hall. The audiences were from different social and economical backgrounds. Malcolm X’s audience was black and poor, and Savio was white and wealthy. In addition, the audiences were apprehensive and exuberant. However, the intended audiences were not the immediate congregation before Malcolm X or Savio. The people there, who each one of them spoke to in 1964, were there to listen and decide on what their next appropriate step would look like or be.
