Malcolm was born on, May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother was Norton little and his was Earl little. The family had eight children. Earls civil rights activism caused death threats from white people. Their Lansing, Michigan home was burned to the ground.
Unlike Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X was a Muslim and came from an underprivileged home. Malcolm’s early background was a large factor responsible for his response to racism. At the tender age of 6, Malcolm’s house was burned by the Klu Klux Klan, which led to the murder of his father. Malcolm was someone who early on experienced anger over witnessing his house being burned followed by his father getting murdered. Several years after the death of his father, his mother suffered an emotional breakdown and was then institutionalized.
From the late 1950s to the late 1960s civil for blacks in remained a burning topic in media and everyday life. Two of the most influential to the movement were Martin Luther King Jr., a preacher from Atlanta, and Malcolm X, an ex-convict from Lansing, Michigan. King, during this era, was most well-known for quite literally preaching for non-violent civil disobedience to create social change. Conversely, X vouched for a violent revolution, a sort of fight fire with fire for the time. For the 1960s however, the ideals of king would be much more advantageous to the cause of the African Americans; in that they had little to no respect towards them from whites and violence would only cause more disrespect, the violent protests would also end

It was during Prison that Malcolm had an experience that he described was as if Allah had given him a gift to be able to reflect and convert to Islam and change his ways (Perry, 1991). Malcom soon joined the Nation of Islam and upon being released from prison preached a philosophy that was incredibly radical for the time. The nation of Islam and Malcolm preached an over zealous stance on racial division and particularly black superiority, in order to combat the harsh reality of racism in white America. The nation of Islam proclaimed that the white race was born of devils, and obviously caused immense controversy and threat from opposition. Malcolm did so much for the construction of modern black American collective identity and fought hard for civil rights that changed the course of history.
The people involved in the civil rights movement fought for their beliefs in social justice and equality for all, regardless of race. Martin Luther King Jr. preached about nonviolence resistance against those who opposed the movement and pleaded for equality among blacks and whites. Another figure, Rosa Parks, fought for her right by refusing to give up her seat for a white person. However, Malcolm X, a black figure in the civil rights movement, was a minister who spoke for the blacks and believed in violence unlike King. Even though Malcolm X was seen as one of the most important leader for the blacks in the civil rights movement, his methods and ideas were considered unjust by turning the hatred towards the white society and labeling the whites as “the devil.”
Malcom X, one of the great civil rights leaders of his time, was an extremely influential man that accomplished many things throughout his life. Because of his knack for public speaking, and his ability to move crowds and sway supporters, Malcom X was extremely included in the civil rights community. He was renowned for his skill in articulating his words and getting his message to resonate with others. These skills allowed him to connect with listeners, hear their thoughts, and bond with people on a personal level.
Martin Luther King and Malcolm X were two influential men who served as important figures for the Civil Rights Movement. The two men came from diverse backgrounds and had contrasting views in life about religion and African American’s stance in society. Malcolm X was born in Nebraska and had great amounts of exposure to racism. Martin Luther King was born in an educated family in Atlanta, where he experienced racism, but to a lower extreme than Malcolm X. Although they passed away long time ago, they continue to live on today in a world independent of segregation. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X used opposing principles to achieve equality for blacks; King utilized integration of both races and nonviolence as opposed to Malcolm X who separated the same races and employed non violence so as to achieve the same goal.
Malcolm X gave black America a face during the situation, as he saw his people as an independent and self-sustaining community when separated from any sort of discrimination. He embraced his black culture and history, encouraging young black people to take pride in their heritage and to reject the white standards of beauty and success that had been imposed upon them. This was something that Martin Luther King never had a thought on doing. This focus on cultural and historical identity was a significant departure from the assimilationist policies of the mainstream civil rights movement. As stated in paragraph #2, Martin Luther King’s protests were being put to an end in white communities because those who did not approve of black rights utilized fear tactics to scare the protestors away from their posts.
The Story of Malcolm X Malcolm X was a Black rights activist during the 1960’s, he was regarded as a powerful speaker and a highly intelligent person. He was averse to blacks and white living in harmony, and spearheaded the black separatist movement. Malcolm X was not always the man that is taught to the public in history classes however, “Learning to read”, and excerpt from Malcolm X’s autobiography, recounts the tale of who Malcolm X was before he was well read, and how a prison’s library shaped views during the civil rights movement, and started fanning the flames for his racism.
Malcolm X was a Muslim minister who was also African American. He was a activist for human rights, Malcolm was a bold and courageous spokesperson for blacks to have rights,Malcolm X declared America “white America” to have the most harshest of terms for it’s tenacious treatments against African Americans. In the year 1946, he was sentenced to prison because he was caught breaking and entering. When he was incarcerated, he was chosen to become a member of the Nation of Islam. This is when he changed his birth name from Malcolm Little to Malcolm X. Later he had written,”Little was the name that the white slave master … had imposed upon paternal forebears” After his parole in 1952 his popularity grew and became the organization 's most influential leaders, and served as the public face of the controversial group for a dozen years.
Over the course of the American history, black people were oppressed and treated unfairly. A few ways that society treated black people is by segregating them from white people, beating them up, and taking advantage of them. As a consequence, African Americans grew up in an environment were limited in their abilities, had hatred towards the white, and had a constant judgment from white people. These factors contributed towards the way society viewed African Americans, flawed, uneducated, and poor. Yet, a notable person who overcame these obstacles and made the most out of his experiences was Malcolm X. He made a dramatic change not only in American history but in African American rights.
When he joined the Nation of Islam, he changed his family name from “Little” to “X” as it was “a custom among Nation of Islam followers who considered their family names to have originated with white slaveholders” (1). Malcolm benefited the organization by being a spokesman and expanding the movement (“Malcolm X.” History. History Channel, n.d 1). He “became the minister of Temple No. 7 in Harlem and Temple No. 11 in Boston” (“Malcolm X Biography” 1). “An articulate public speaker, a charismatic personality, and an indefatigable organizer, Malcolm X expressed the pent-up anger, frustration, and bitterness of African Americans during the major phase of the Civil Rights Movement from 1955 to 1965”
Malcolm X was an influential African-American leader he also rose to prominence in the mid-1950s. Malcolm opposed the mainstream civil rights movement, publicly calling for black separatism and rejecting nonviolence and integration into combatting racism by. this week at intern was very eventful and I learned a lot. The first thing I did was help the Chaplain with bereavement. I helped him make invitations for grief support group and I also sent out the invites to the people whose family recently passed away. After sending the invite the chaplain gave me the list of all the people who we invited to grief support group and asked me to personally invite them on the phone. They are hoping to have better results for the grief support group.
