On the 15th and 16th of December 2014 a lone gunman, Man Haron Monis, held hostage ten customers and eight employees of a Lindt chocolate café located at Martin Place in Sydney, Australia. After a 16-hour standoff, a gunshot was heard from inside and police officers from the Tactical Operations Unit stormed the café. Hostage Tori Johnson was killed by Monis and hostage Katrina Dawson was killed by a police bullet ricochet in the subsequent raid. Monis was also killed. Police treated the event as a terrorist attack at the time but Monis' motives have subsequently been debated. Jabar was subsequently shot and killed by special constables who were protecting the police station. In the days leading up to the shooting, police reported that there had been an increase of "chatter" about a potential attack occurring. An alert had been circulated to all police, ordering them to wear their firearms on them at all times, even at their desks. Police are believed to have had intelligence of a potential attack on the Parramatta headquarters up to 12 months ago, although it is unknown if that was linked to the October 2nd incident. In the days before the shooting, police and security officers had seen an individual taking photographs of the entrance to Police Headquarters. The NSW Police headquarters in Parramatta is home to several crime commands, including those of the homicide, drug, Middle Eastern Organised Crime, and various gang squads. It is still unknown if these were the potential targets of the gunman. Police however, have investigated the crime and ruled it as a "terrorism
