In Cleveland, Ohio there was a fire that occurred on June 22, 1969, around 12pm on the Cuyahoga river. People called it the “burning river”. The river caught on fire because there were floating pieces of debris that was slicked with oil. The debris ignited by sparks that came from a train that was passing over the river. The reason it happened is from years of people dumping pollution into the river.

One of the organizations I am proud to donate to is the United Service Organizations, or USO. Since 1941, the USO has supported troops at home and abroad. With the intent to lift the spirits of troops and their family members, the organization endeavors to provide a “home away from home” feeling for all the families dealing with the rigors of serving overseas. The organization became famous for its Camp Shows over the years--with some occurring in active war zones. To make this all possible, the USO relies heavily on private donations.
Michael Vancea David and Goliath Chapter 7 (Difficulty Paper) Rosemary Lawlor was a newlywed Irish Catholic who survived as a teenage mother during “the Troubles” in Northern Ireland between the Protestants and the Catholics. During this time, the British army was called in to protect the citizens from rioters. However, after a while, the British had turned on the Irish and gave them curfews in an attempt to control them. ” My father said, ‘The Brits, they’ll turn on us. They say they are in here to protect us.
The systems we have put in place to ensure individuals and families do not fall into destitution often fail to do the job; with people struggling without the necessities of life for too long (HungerCount, 2014). Therefore, the Salvations Army food banks can be seen as a Social Economy institution for many reasons. J.J. McMurtry argues that the Social Economy is based on the community and the individual. He says "people participate in the social economy-not to be non-profit or non-state per se, but to actually make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of other, to build community of one sort or another" (J.J. McMurtry, Pg 30). Salvation Army food banks are predominantly made to focus its attention on communities.

Home Depot had a clear understanding of its various stakeholders and developed a strong commitment and relationship with its employees, customers, suppliers, communities, and the environment. Home Depot believed that most environmental groups were extremely powerful and had legitimate concerns for protecting the environment. Despite Home Depots belief that environmental groups had an important degree of power, they were not primary stakeholders for Home Depot. Environmental groups can be extremely vocal and they can damage a company because they often encounter negative press, but ultimately they had no impact on whether Home Depot would or would not survive as a company in the economy. Although most of my involvement has centered around politics, where I have been an active volunteer in the current election cycle, my service also extends to the homeless community in the Quad Cities. After recognizing the extent of homelessness in Davenport, my friend decided to start a nonprofit 5K to benefit a local shelter and I immediately joined in the venture. By working with the shelter rather than independently, we were able to avoid the faults set forth in To Hell With Good Intentions. Our good intentions have donated over $10,000 to King’s Harvest Ministries, who uses funds in a way that raises the standard of living for the local homeless
History of Waterways Wisconsin is home to many large bodies of water. It borders two great lakes: Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. The western border is made up of both the St. Croix River and the Mississippi River. The treasured Wisconsin River runs through the state, and according to Sweeny-Justice (n.d.) the land has 15,074 lakes (only 40% are large enough to name).
All around the whole world you can find charities for the less fortunate. There are charities for the hungry, the homeless, and for the sick people suffering in hospitals. At my church my pastor visits people in the hospital and prays for them to get better. My youth group does blood drives for the hungry and homeless twice a year. We also go up to Carpenteria and do ministry for the children up there.
Over half of all soup kitchens, food pantries and meal programs rely entirely on volunteers. And when you give your time, you get back something amazing in return: The feeling that you are helping families who need it. No matter what happens in the world, you absolutely have the power to make a difference. And now, thanks to a generous donor, each pledge can be matched with $1 to help provide 11 meals up to $20,000.
I would like to help poor people because they don’t have a place to call home and they usually go without food for the day so I would like for them to have a nice warm meal at
