Home Depot had a clear understanding of its various stakeholders and developed a strong commitment and relationship with its employees, customers, suppliers, communities, and the environment. Home Depot believed that most environmental groups were extremely powerful and had legitimate concerns for protecting the environment. Home Depot strived to improve relationships with their employees by seeking social responsibility and attaining a diverse workforce. However, in 1997 Home Depot faced a class action lawsuit where a female employee claimed women were paid less than their male counterparts, awarded fewer pay raises, and received less advancement opportunities. Therefore, an $87.5 million settlement was received which is one of the largest settlements for gender discrimination in U. S. history. An organization that Home Depot could assist would be the Salvation Army, which is a nonprofit organization that relies solely on donations and are always in need of assistance to make the communities around the world a better place to live. Presently, the Salvation Army is building the largest community in Florida to help homeless families in Lakeland named The George Jenkins City of Hope. Home Depot handles many of the supplies and extras that are needed for such a large-scale project and any donations would positively affect the community.
