Mansa Musa was the richest person ever. He was so rich that nobody else has been able to beat his fortune. Mansa Musa was definitely the richest person in history. He was described was the richest and most noble king of the land. His fortune in today’s money is worth 400 billion dollars. When Mansa Musa went to Cairo, he gave every single person who lived there an amount of gold. Mansa Musa’s wealth came from the resources he had back in Mali. He also owned over half of the salt and gold mines. Nevertheless, people would think that somebody has surpassed his fortune, but Mansa Musa is indeed still the richest! Even today, Mansa Musa is still the richest man that has ever lived in history. According to the Huffington Post, the post says that “Mansa Musa’s fortune far outstrips that of the current world’s richest man: Carlos Slim Helú and family …” Basically, Mansa Musa is 5.8 times more than Carlos Slim Helú. His fortune is worth 68.7 billion, and Mansa Musa’s is 400 billion in today’s money. But Mansa Musa died over 600 years ago, so people would think someone is richer than him. In Cresques’ map, which was made in the 1375, shows Mansa Musa holding a ball of gold and a scepter, even though he died around the 1330s. The inscription stated that he was “the richest and most noble king in all the land”. It means that even though Mansa Musa died in the 1330s. He was still remembered 40 years later and still today. So Abraham Cresques thought it was important to include Mansa Musa in his map. Mansa Musa was a big deal because Cresques put him on his Catalan Atlas.
