Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd is a professional sports entertainment company that is based at the Air Canada Centre on 50 Bay Street in Suite 500, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The company was founded in 1931 by Conn Smythe and was previously known as Maple Leaf Garden Limited (MLGL). During the start of its venture the main role of the public company was to act as a holding company for the Nation Hockey League team the Toronto Maple Leafs and the construction of their arena the Maple Leaf Gardens. As the arena began to age MLGL started planning to create a new home for the NHL team. During this time, the MLGL negotiated with the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association, to embark on a shared arena for both teams. Finally in 1998 MLGL purchases 100% of the Toronto Raptors basketball club and construction began on the Air Canada Centre. A couple months later the company decided it was time to change their name to Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd (MLSE) to reflect the expansion of their holdings. The former NHL arena was sold to Loblaws and now homes the hockey arena for Ryerson University Rams. Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment has earned a lot of respect from North America for having an enthusiastic sports city with professionally marketed teams and events. I have a true passion for sports, entertainment and Canada.
