For my first concert review, I attended Appalachian Classic Band Festival. Many marching band performed but I chose to focus on East Tennessee State University Marching Bucs. The Marching Bucs have over two-hundred members in their band. Those members came from seventy-five different high schools and colleges. They performed four songs, all of which, are very popular today. This did not include the drumline playing their cadence. The names of the songs are “Back to the Future Overture” from the movie back to the future, “Back in Black” by Ac Dc, “Get Back” by The Beetles, and “Firebird” by Igor Stravinsky. The opener that the East Tennessee Marching Bucs performed was “Back to the Future Overture”. This song started off with short, allegro drum break. After the drum break, the brass section came in with the melody. The woodwinds played the accompaniment to the melody. The melody was very upbeat and exciting. The melody was played as a Refrain. The texture of this song starts out as homophonic texture and evolves to a polyphonic texture. Throughout the song the dynamics fluctuate. There are lots of crescendos and …show more content…
This song had soloists. The soloists was mostly brass players. There was a trombone solo for three bars. Then the band played, followed by a trumpet solo. This song was really short. In this song the drumline and low brass section was the rhythm section. The dynamics of this song was mostly forte. This song was all so very allegro. The melody was very driving. The chord progressions of this song was very distinctive. You could really hear the chords being played during this song. This song is from the rock genre of music. The marching in this song looks harder than the marching in “Back to the future Overture”. Every one of the Marching Bucs tend to move a bit more. The drill just looks a lot harder.
