Civil War soldiers fought for something more than just manhood, duty, government, and their country. They fought for and against slavery, which for most soldiers was their primary motivation beyond defending their home. Slavery for many was more than just an institution, it was the fabric of their economic society that provided the wealth and opportunity to the South. Without slavery the South could not operate and prosper which made it impossible for the notion of emancipation. However, those in the North did not immediately rely on the institution of slavery in such dire manner.
In technical terms, it’s a combination of dance, performance, and equipment that creates a visual accompaniment to a marching band show. To us, it is so much more. Our flags, rifles, and sabres are more than just metal, wood, and tape. They are our prides and joys, our security blankets, our babies. We spend hours perfecting tosses, watching silks swirl over our heads, making sure that we catch with our hands in just the right places.

The civil war brought down slavery which was a big part of the United States back then.

“Why Marching Band Should be a Sport” By definition, a sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment, which is exactly what marching band is. There's is a scoring system, and after almost every parade with bands, there's an award ceremony where the bands receive their scores and find out their rank. The Civil War could be considered a “Second American Revolution" because of the abolition of slavery, and Abraham Lincolns radical ideas, which significantly changed the concept of government.
The civil war had a very profound effect on America and what it has become today. With the civil war many changes took place such as 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment. Women’s rights were put forth into motion. Along with Reconstruction laws being passes and the push back that these laws caused. During this time the south became even more divided and started to take things into account and create their own laws in regards to racism.
Music was mostly listened to by soldiers in World War I ( Hooper ). For example, some songs that soldiers listened to were, “Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Bag”, “Keep the Home Fires Burning”, and “Oh! How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning” ( Hooper). Music was mostly essential for teenagers and dancing events ( Barrett).
