Margaret Atwood's Bread Ethical Analysis

113 Words1 Pages
A perfect example of this could be one of the stories featured in Margaret Atwood’s Bread. In this she spins a tale of a brutal famine in which there are two sisters, one sick and dying, and only a single piece of bread between them. The reader is then posed with a question of whether the healthier sister should share the bread, give it to her sister or keep it for herself. How this should be solved can be based on the ethical approaches discussed in the article, A Framework for Thinking Ethically. However, out of all the approaches, the Utilitarian and the Virtue ones would best suit the dilemma presented in Bread.
