In the article, “All’s Not Well in Land of ‘The Lion King’” by Margaret Lazarus, Lazarus gives her take on The Lion King. The young author was hoping that Disney had stopped with the common stereotypes. Lazarus explains to us that she was interested in seeing the movie as it looked like Disney was skipping over the common fairy tales. But before the title sequence appears on the screen and Lazarus shudders as she sees it. Lazarus continues to describe the movie in her article in a way not many people would. It was stated that you can easily see which lions and animals are evil by their surroundings and the color of their fur. Lazarus continues to explain the stereotypes she sees in the PG movie. We are told about the King, Scar the evil brother, Hyenas and the Pride Lands royal subjects. Lazarus claims that Scar and the Hyenas are “gays and blacks ruining the ‘natural order’” Lazarus explains how she feels and believes others see the movie as a metaphor for society. Lazarus explained her feelings toward Disney movies, “I hoped Disney had grown weary of reinforcing women’s subordinate status by screening fables about a beauty who tames an angry man or a mermaid who gives up her glorious voice and splits her body to be with a prince.” By reading this article it was easy to see the different point of view she had.
