The purpose of Sgt. John Wilson is to give information to the reader in the sense of a autobiography. Lois Simmie does this by foreshadowing the event in the prologue. But not completely giving it away till much further in the book. if this were a novel the sequence of events would change completely but since this is an autobiography the order of events do not need to be followed 100% all the way through.
QP engaged Maunica in participating in a CBT activity geared towards emotional response. QP explained to Maunica that the activity will help her to learn the event is causing the emotion, the interpretation of the event and how to use mindfulness skills in observing and deciding. QP asked Maunica to list some emotions people have. QP brainstormed with Maunica things that prompts events of emotional reactions in people. QP assisted Maunica in participating in a mindfulness exercise.
In “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, the author uses diction like abstract diction and details by explaining what he exactly wants in life to demonstrate Walter and his dream. To begin, Hansberry uses diction to demonstrate Walter and his dream by using abstract diction. She does this by explaining how he will give Travis anything for his seventeenth birthday and that he will “hand you the world!” (2.2). This shows that he wants to make his sons life as good as possible.
Seaver addresses the idea that the Coca-Cola Company came up with the ideal slogan of “the real thing” first. Seaver believes and also states in his letter to Herbert that if both companies use the slogan, then there will be confusion in the products, that will cause the customers to be misleading. Seaver complicates matters further when he describes the disadvantage of using the same slogan, which will eventually affect their merchandise. In other words, Seaver knows that if both companies keep using the same motto, customers would be confused in which product is advertised, and it can cause a downfall in their financial.
The Onion uses satirical humor to poke fun at modern advertisements and the gullibility of Americans have by mocking the techniques used to sell consumer goods; it does this through its mocking publication of a product called MagnaSoles. This article uses quotes from customers that have bought MagnaSoles, subtle jokes and puns, and the over exaggeration of the sciences implemented by Magnasoles. The article is rampant with subtle hints, jokes, and puns that key the reader in that this article is a joke. With the use of "pseudoscientists" and "pseudoscience" used throughout the article, as well as the "scientific-sounding literature", this is an indicator that this is not real science talking. Speeches are used to commemorate points of history, and inform the general public of the product of their history but what makes a speech so impacting on it’s audience? Rhetorical devices give speeches and works of literature a way that can convey feelings or ideas to a viewer. When addressing during times of war or chaos, people such as Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, and Winston Churchill used these terms to better connect with their audience. Without these tools of the english language, dialogue and literature would be all the more dull and unappealing. However, with these useful instruments, writers and speakers can better communicate through some of the many rhetorical devices.

The United States is made up of some of the most diverse and interesting cultures in the world. Jamila Lyiscott proves this by showing her different dialects and how they are all equally important. Lyiscott believes that the way she speaks towards her parents, towards her friends, and towards her colleagues are all one in the same. Throughout the entirety of her speech, Lyiscott changes up her vocal patterns and dialects so that the audience can understand first hand what each of these dialects are. When she talks about her father, Lyiscott uses her native tongue, when she talks to her fellow neighbors and close friends she switches it up to a more urbanized dialect, and when she is in school she masks the other two dialects with a professional sounding language.
On October 15th, 2016 Austin Community College’s Department of History and the Diversion of Social and Behavioral Sciences created a history symposium. This symposium consisted of 2 speakers, Theresa Jach and Kemp Dixon, who spoke about convict leasing and the law east of the Pecos. Throughout Theresa’s speech she showed us the similarities between convict leasing and slavery in the early years of American history. She reminds us that while slavery has been abolished, the enslavement of individuals who have been convicted of a crime is still legal and allows the state to have the opportunity to make a profit off of keeping correction facilities full. The reading of Gangstas, wankstas, and Ridas have reinforced my desire of working with the poor communities. The Five Pillars of effective practice in the Ridas’ classroom have helped me to identify the strength of teaching and mentoring. As a mentor, I do plenty of preparation to assist my students as much as possible and prioritize their needs. I strongly agree with Pillar 2, which is serving the community. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability.
