The contribution of Mark Antony and Cleopatra was a significant part of history for ancient Roman civilization. Antony was married to Octavian’s sister Julia (Guisepi). However, Cleopatra soon entered the picture and Mark and Octavian alliance was broken. According to Dutton, Cleopatra was the perfect “target for Octavian to attack.” She was royal and foreign and the Romans hated her. Because many Romans hated her, many soldiers were not willing to fight for her (Dutton 145). Because of this Antony quickly acted and tried to win over the Roman masses and take control of Rome (Dutton 146). But, Antony and Cleopatra were defeated by “Octavian’s forces at Actium” (Kreis).
