I would say that Mark Knapp would explain the phenomenon “Love at first sight” as the stage of initiating (pg.283). The reason why is that in this stage you make first impressions. Those of friendship but also those of relationship interest. I found that this to be the opening pathway to relationships according to the 10 stages of relational development. Furthermore, because there may be an attraction in the beginning it does not mean a relationship is inevitable. This may be just the opening for partnerships or social networking relationships. Knapp proves that love at first sight is something but is not exactly true love. You can be attracted to a person physically in stage initiating (pg.284) and go through the experimenting stage (pg.285). Nevertheless, by the stage of intensifying (pg.285) finding that the relationship you had has begun to fizzle out because it has become less emotional. If a couple is able to make past these three stages they begin to integrate (pg.286) as a couple, this is where they find strength. A couple would begin to give up characteristics of themselves and actually become similar to their significant other. If a couple is able to make it through all of these stages they very well have had “love at first sight”, but it is not for sure until later on in the 10 stages of relational development
