After reading the case, "Nursing Facilities Case: Mary", one can't help but to feel sympathy for the family members involved with making the decision to do a hip replacement on such a frail body. Should Mary's family members authorize the double hip replacement? What factors should be considered? Who else, if anyone, should be considered? What are the implications of that decision on the parties invlved: Mary, her children, the faculty staff?

My biggest concern with improving quality care and patient safety issues in that, the responsibility is not ours alone, our Chief Nurse Executives (CNEs) and Director of Nursing (DON), and senior nursing management staffs to lead the journey Disch J. I find it overwhelming that the majority of the research literature (studies, surveys and reports believe nursing plays the pivotal role in changing the face of health care and improving quality care and patient safety.

The feeling of being able to alleviate the suffering of an acutely ill patient is at once incredibly satisfying and immensely humbling. I am constantly in awe of the fact that by coming to work everyday, I have the privilege of helping others who cannot care for themselves. During my time in my Clinical Care Extender Internship, I developed a special interest in caring for the geriatric population and have had the opportunity of serving as a personal caregiver to an elderly woman with dementia. I do not take the trust and confidence that my patient places in me lightly and work hard to advocate and provide for her safety because she deserves no less. Thus, in the interest of patient advocacy, as a nurse in your facility, I will seek to improve the practices that will keep my patients safe and promote their healing.
Due to hospital care reaching an all-time high in America, we need nurses now more than ever before. Currently in America, we have an issue with nurses having too many paperwork to fill out. In the article “We Need More Nurses” by Alexandra Robbins argues we need more nurses in the hospital. Nursing shortage has been a common issue throughout the world. Because of this issue others are being affected in many different ways.

The personal care that I am able to give to a resident is rewarding. Knowing you have helped someone is a grand thing. As a registered nurse it appears that most of the time is spent charting medical records, dealing with way too many headaches, and passing medication. Sarah has worked in other medical settings prior to coming to a care facility and stated that so much burden and liability is placed on nurses especially in hospitals.
