I have a dream… In Martin Luther king’s speech “I have a dream”, Martin dreamed about ending racism in the United States. I don’t know what that dream is that you have. But here’s what I know, that that dream that you’re holding in your mind that it is possible. See sometimes we can’t say I can do it because we’re too frustrated, too tired, but what we can say that it is possible. What is a dream? In fact, we all dream about something, of becoming someone in the future, achieving a goal or getting somewhere. Even blind people have dreams. Lucid dreaming is when you’re in a dream and you realize that you are dreaming while you are dreaming…that’s a lot of dreams. In a more simple definition, lucid dreaming is when you’re conscious while dreaming - to be awake and taking active control of your dreams. If you decide, you can change the dream, do whatever, and be whoever.The dream world has no physical laws, its all happening in your mind. Anything you want comes true. You can be a ninja, superman, you can fly, and be in two places at the same time. Everything is possible. Now some of you might say “I don’t even dream” truth is everybody has 3 to 7 dreams a night. I know as students we don’t have enough time to sleep our sleep schedule is messed up but when we get the chance to sleep we go through a cycle called REM (rapid eye movement) and that’s when you have dreams.(chart) Every hour and a half you enter REM and as the night progresses the REM gets longer. It is in the REM phase where dreams are made. The best technique to lucid dream is Wake-back-to-bed technique (WBTB). All what you have to do is wake up after 6 hours of sleep right before the longest rem phase, set your alarm, and then you go back to sleep with the intention of having a lucid dream convince yourself that you will control your dream. Keep repeating in your mind that you will have a lucid dream, you will have a lucid dream. Wait until your inner-voice shuts off then you can imagine sinking into your pillow until your body is just about asleep and you will pass lucidly into the dream world. You will notice something is wrong like for example time isn’t moving forward and in dreams you always have that reoccurring image or a dejavu you always have a dream wearing this jacket or in your car or when its raining, your vision is much more vivid and colorful. Those are dream signs. Now that you’re sure you’re dreaming, remember that there are no social consequences, no judgments, you cannot get hurt.
