In the article “Food for thought: Resisting the moralization of food” by Mary Maxfield, notions her overall assertion against the case of conformity within our culture regarding the principles of food. However, trusting ourselves to meet our needs will lead our culture to make poor Judgment, due to this, Ego depletion is the main cause of society’s repetition towards consuming what we desire to eat. The Theory of ego depletion is used in a psychological sense known as the fatigue in self control. According to the Resisting the moralization of food, Maxfield quotes “In essence, we can eat as we always have which includes eating for emotional and social reasons and still strive or even thrive (Maxfiled,445). This quote is questionable; does Mary’s response lean towards ego depletion? Because of the lack glucose which will cause individuals to make careless decisions without self control. In my experience I have suffered from ego depletion. Exhausted by long day of applying myself to school I stopped by the bookstore to quench my thirst. I was stuck debating whether or not to buy a root beer or vitamin water, as a result, I went for the sugar root beer because my brain lead my body to thirst for something sugary. In closing, Mary Maxfield does not address the how society should meet there needs. Proceeding through the beginning of her article Mary claims we can eat as we always have and thrive, and her solution at the end is to trust ourselves, our bodies, and meet our needs. Here Maxfield contradicts herself against her own word and straddles the fence without even knowing it. Mary neglects to discuss the cognitive role in this article, yet she gives her own perception regarding the principles of food. How
