The world of business has come a long way since the impact of the industrial revolution. It was a time of great change and innovation that affected how people lived and the way business operated. Over the years there have been many influential people, pioneers of their time, that have molded and engraved managerial principles into the way we do business today. She has had experience from social work with schools and nonprofit organizations to management and consultations with business and governmental leaders. She changed the way conflict was resolved. In the past, it was common for conflict to be resolved through domination. Domination is an approach in which one party satisfies its desires and goals at the expense of the other party’s desires and goals. Mary believed finding a compromise is the most efficient way to deal with conflict, so rather than one party demanding the other they follow a process called integrative conflict resolution where both parties explain their preferences and they work together to find a happy medium so none of them must sacrifice anything. “Integration involves invention, and the clever thing is to recognize this, and not let ones thinking stay within the boundaries of two alternatives which re mutually exclusive,” (Follett 35). As managers, it is important that they are good listeners because when there is a conflict or disagreement they must take in all the information and act as a mediator.
