Frankenstein: From Benevolent to Feind “I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend.” (Shelley 69) Said by Frankenstein’s monster, this quote truly defines him: initially an affectionate, love-seeking creature, he transformed into an enraged killer, angry at humanity for the undeservedly poor way he was treated. Victor Frankenstein is an unique, complex individual who encounters a similar change of nature for similar reasons. The quote—though spoken by the monster—encapsulates the evolution of Victor Frankenstein’s personality; misery—a product of isolation and loneliness—aroused a deterioration of temperament from an initially benevolent Frankenstein.
T.F Hodges once wrote, “What surrounds us is what is within us.” Hodges implies humans are impacted by their surroundings, especially their thoughts and actions. This concept is prevalent in the book Frankenstein, as Mary Shelley uses death and pain to influence her characters’ actions. Using these events, Shelley proves that individuals change through their experiences.
The unknown is inevitably frightening to humans. While humans seek to satisfy their curiosity by answering questions about what is unknown, there is an underlying fear of change and difference. Many authors see this phobia and attempt to discuss it in their own work. Both Octavia E. Butler and Mary Shelley both explore human aversion to disparities using the creatures they created in their novels. In both Butler’s Dawn and Shelley’s Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, the authors use specific diction and particular comparisons as well as other literary devices to convey the similarities and differences between discriminatory human behaviors.
Shelly and Ishiguro both deal with the unnatural creation of life and the repercussions of ‘playing god', However, Shelley and Ishiguro have different attitudes and approaches towards this. The novels both deal with themes such as responsibility, ensoulment and what makes things morally right and wrong. In Frankenstein the doctor's creation and the cloning. Although not in detail we can that in never let me go the cloning is unnatural as it is clear throughout the novel that the clones are unable to have children.
Parents are everyone 's first role models. Regardless of biological relation, those who raise us have a profound influence on the way we perceive and interpret life. Parents lay the foundation of our first sense of morality and empathy, and usher us to the path of our development of social skills. No matter how consciously one may attempt to have no resemblance to their parents, it is an inevitability of life that we will harness aspects of their influence and carry them through our lifetime. In Mary Shelley’s, “Frankenstein”, the influence of parental figures is displayed by the morals and values instilled in the monster.
Written during the ninteenth century, the gothic Frankensteinnovel by Marry Shelly, tells the story of a young educated student Victor Frankenstein, who creates a grotesque but fantastic creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment, which leads to different tragic events. Shelly writes about the creation of the creature and how he is first introduce to his livelihood and this world. In this novel Shelly uses different types of literary techniques to convey the expression of the creature as a baby just learning about life and the world, and by employing innovative literary techniques such as imagery, setting, theme, and characterization, she creates a feeling of sympathy on the readers. This feeling is created through Shelly establishment of pity on the readers by reavealing the creature’s loathsome creation, habitat, or even existence.
The author's purpose of this passage is to underline the differences in interaction with others and natures of the creature and of Adam because of their contrasting creators. Shelley is not focusing on Frankenstein in this passage and has no religious lesson to teach. The creature is jealous of Adam and all people that can love and communicate with each other, he doesn’t necessarily hate them. He just envies them. The author juxtaposes Adam and the creature to highlight their difference in conception, ability to interact with others, and natures.
Through her work, Frankenstein, Shelley relays her struggles in life and this is evident in how she portrays the monster. At the beginning of the novel her life parallels more with the doctor,Victor Frankenstein, but once the monster is created and we see how the public reacts to him we see that Mary is more closely related to it than Victor. Frankenstein has many elements that are similar to Shelley’s life, his quest for love, desperation for acceptance, and depression. Shelley was born on August 30, 1797 in London, England. Born Mary Wollstoncraft Godwin, she was the daughter of philosopher William Godwin.
In the film “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein” directed by Kenneth Branagh was based on the book “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley. Victor, the main protagonist, is against the adversary monster he has created. The movie as I consider should earn a “D-” for there was excessive flaws upon the based of the novel, however, few key points was correctly shown that would flow the movie. The book portrays Victor Frankenstein as he was the only one working to the creation of the monster with no other acknowledgement of creating the monster, however, in the movie Professor Waldman have had Victor motivated upon the discovery of his(Waldman) works in which the works have helped him create the monster.

Novels of the romanticism period, a significant literary era that encompassed most European works written in the early 1800’s, are most known for describing the impacts that nature has on people and implying that unexpected consequences can arise out of this relationship; Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is a prime example of such a novel. In the fictional novel Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley the main character Victor Frankenstein believes that he can bring life to a body he makes from human parts. He does successfully create this creature but ends up being terrified and disgusted by it so he runs and abandons it. The creature then departs in solitude and later sets out for revenge against Victor for abandoning him. Shelley conveys the creature as a child learning about life using several different techniques in order for the audience to feel sympathy towards it.
Frankenstein is a book written by Mary Shelley about a man named Victor Frankenstein and his life and how it came to be. He had created a monster and brought it to life by studying and learning natural philosophy. Mary Shelley brought the emotions forward from the main characters by the amount of detail she put into the book. Most of the detail was brought in by the suffering that happens throughout the book caused by Frankenstein’s monster. The monster in this story is a tragic figure that is the main cause of suffering that occurs to everyone.

Interestingly enough, the novel resembles Shelley’s own life and can be interpreted as a reflection of her perception of families. Shelley shares many of the same characteristics with most of her characters. As the main character in the novel, Frankenstein’s creature is depicted as “a motherless orphan” who had an “unnatural birth” (Griffith). This correlates with Shelley’s own childhood as she was raised without a mother and her birth was in some ways “unnatural” as mothers are not naturally made to die during childbirth.
Mary Shelley was on a trip through Europe, the actual area that Frankenstein took place, when she got the inspiration for Frankenstein. This gave her the setting for her story. Other factors that influenced her writing were, “scientists like Humphry Davy and her father's bosom friend William Nicholson, the two foremost experimenters with galvanic electricity in the early years of the nineteenth century.
