Have you ever eaten genetically modified chicken? Have you ever made use of solar energy? If you have ever done any of these then you have participated in controlling nature, even if only in a small fraction. Control of nature is something that humans have been practicing since the first man to walk the earth. Humans should control nature due to the the fact that we receive benefits due to our utilization of control of nature, said benefits being that humankind receive the necessities of life (food & water), motivation to think about their actions regarding the environment, and industrialization.
The citizens of Mary Valley, Australia were facing a very serious “water crisis” in which they needed a vast amount of water more than they had, to provide the residents of Mary Valley with. Deforestation. Overfishing. These effects just indicates that humans do not really think about our actions and how they impact the earth. There are actions we can take to fix that. If a canal is built, the community which uses water from that source would have to pay more for the resource they are receiving. Consequently, prompting them to think about their water usage ( Wong p.3). When a resource that you often waste or misuse becomes a “precious commodity”, you would try to be more conscientious of how you used that product (Chellaney p.1). Additionally, there are conflicts happening all over the world regarding to these resources and the shortage of them. According to Brahma Chellaney, “Water is a key test of whether Asian leaders have the political will and good sense to think and act long term.”.
