Philosophers believed that men act like tyrants and act immature so they need to change their ways. In Document F-1 Mary Wollstonecraft says “But if women are to be excluded, without having a voice, from participation of the natural rights of mankind, prove first, to ward of the charge… there is not a shadow of justification for not admitting women under the same.” Wollstonecraft is fighting for equality, believes the only reason women are not equal is based off of old tradition, and it is time for change.
Mary Wollstonecraft was an English writer, philosopher, and advocate of women's rights.
Mary Wollstonecraft wrote in rebellion against the traditional strictures of the behavior of women, recoiling from the traditional social hierarchy that determined the roles of lives and rejected ideas that she felt confined women. She rejected the notion that women were to bow down to men, questioning “who made man the exclusive judge?” and why it was that “the men stand up for the dignity of man, by oppressing the women.” (Letters Written in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark: 1796 Letter 3). By looking to the state to reform education and believing that legislation would end women’s subordination, Wollstonecraft initiated a new era in feminist discourse.

In her paper she includes how men are viewed superior in the world because of heavy tasks or big roles they undertake. A women so to say are seen as weak because they play a big part on house chores and aren't as well educated as the male.

In “A Vindication of the Rights of Women” by Mary Wollstonecraft, the path to virtue is through true education and reason. The effects of virtue are illustrated through an enlightened mind, being morally upright, and being able to live a pleasant life. One achieves virtue when one truly understands what his or her education is for, to not only to be able to learn from today’s society, but also from mistakes made in mankind’s past and try to better it.
Mary Wollstonecraft was an advocate for women's rights and a writer. She was also the founder of movements and the rights of women. Mary conveyed and spoke out in her published books about injustice and the right to be equal in economics, education, and politics. She like many others during the 17th century spoke up for a greater future in France. Similar to John Locke who was also a philosopher that wanted the idea of a government that protected a person's natural rights including life, liberty, and property.
The Age of Enlightenment was a period of intellectual, social, and economic movements that sought-after a more reformed way of society. Predominantly in Europe many advances were starting to take place, however women still were faced with nonexistent rights. Mary Wollstonecraft, was born during the midst of the Enlightenment era. During her childhood where education for women was not important nor prominent, she saw how detrimental the social class was set for women and knew from a young age she wanted to pursue a higher education level. Wollstonecraft settle to dedicate her life to writing and with this hopefully challenge the norms of educating and liberating women.
In the book of vindication of the right of a woman, Wollstonecraft brings out clearly the roles of a woman in her society and how it has led to oppression of women (Wollstonecraft 22). Wollstonecraft believes that men and women are equal given the same environment and empowerment, women can do anything a man can do. In her society, education for women is only aimed at making her look pleasing to men. Women are treated as inferior being and used by men as sex objects. Wollstonecraft believed that the quality of mind of women is the same with that of men, and therefore women should not be denied a chance for formal education that will empower them to be equal with men.

From a Vindication of the Rights of Woman expresses Wollstonecraft’s true views on how woman should be treated and should act in their relationships with men, and in society. Wollstonecraft dealt with several personal events that may have opened her eyes to the way women should be truly being treated in society. As a young girl Wollstonecraft dealt with her mother being abused by her father, she would sleep on the outside the door of her parents rooms to protect her mother if needed. Wollstonecraft also dealt with her two sisters also being in abusive relationships at an older age.
The amount of progress that the cause of human rights has seen since the Victorian era is massive. Before women used to be considered property to the dominant male in their lives, whether that be their husband or their father. Women's education focused mainly on tasks that women would do, such as sewing and cooking. “A Vindication of the Rights of Women” written by Mary Wollstonecraft supports women’s rights and teaches women of other skills instead of the housewife skills being taught at that time. However, women weren't the only ones being mistreated.
Mary Wollstonecraft’s A vindication of the rights of women written in 1792 can be considered one of the first feminist documents, although the term appeared much later in history. In this essay, Wollstonecraft debates the role of women and their education. Having read different thinkers of the Enlightenment, as Milton, Lord Bacon, Rousseau, John Gregory and others, she finds their points of view interesting and at the same time contrary to values of the Enlightenment when they deal with women’s place. Mary Wollstonecraft uses the ideas of the Enlightenment to demand equal education for men and women. I will mention how ideals of the Enlightenment are used in favor of men but not of women and explain how Wollstonecraft support her “vindication” of the rights of women using those contradictions.
Throughout this text, Wollstonecraft discusses how close-minded society was about women and equality. She describes society as being under the impression that women and men were two different animals. Society also believed that men were free and logical thinkers that could rule and change society while women were seen as pretty objects that could bear children. Wollstonecraft’s feminist view discusses that the problem was not only men inhibiting women, but women themselves were also not pushing against the ideology that men were superior. She continues to explain her new feminist ideology that discusses changes in society that would create equality.
There are many ways women are being discriminated and looked down upon for the chance for a change and their voice to be heard equally. For today’s society, women have not ran for president of the United States before. However, the election is going on right now, and Hillary Clinton is running for president. Similarly, other countries have had women as leaders and there has been no problem to that. She believed that women needed to be educated in order to find their way to equality with men.
