School shootings have recently become a much more common experience. They are the worst kind of mass shooting because they have a huge effect on the entire community, children's bodies, and people’s relationship skills. Because they are traumatic experiences, and they happen in a place that holds many young people, lives are permanently altered by the event of a school shooting. As much as school shootings affect the individuals involved, it also affects the whole community surrounding the shooting. It permanently alters their brain chemistry. For students, school shootings can affect their quality of relationship skills, and their feelings of security. Because school shootings happen at a place that is supposed to be safe for students, it can cause greater effects to arise. “children exposed to shootings at schools may suffer more acutely than when they are exposed to violence in other settings because of their connection to student and teacher victims and the loss of trust in their schools’ ability to keep them safe.” (Maya Rossin-Slater) Students form strong bonds with the people they are surrounded with everyday at school. Losing anyone that would be a part of their normal daily life is extremely traumatic for them. They can no longer feel the safety that a school is supposed to provide to a student. Secure attachments are formed at school and when that is taken from a student it is hard for them to form more, or even if they see those relationships getting taken from other people it can affect their own ability to form said
