According to James Alan Fox in Mass Shootings in America: Moving Beyond Newtown, parents have the biggest responsibility over their kids playing violent video games. “To the extent that youngsters spend endless hours being entertained by violence says more about the lack of parental supervision and control. It isn 't that the entertainment media are so powerful; it is that our other institutions - family, school, religion, and neighborhood - have grown weaker with respect to socializing children…” Fox is trying to get at one thing here, and this is that we may think these violent video games were made to be addicting

Mental illness significantly affects many around the world. In fact, about four-hundred and fifty million people worldwide suffer from one or more of the different known mental illnesses. Over recent years the amount of school shootings has increased tremendously from numerous causes, which leave lasting effects that change our daily life and routine. School shootings are devastating events that seem to happen more and more often as life progresses. It is not possible to know the one true reason why people decide to commit this awful act, but it is possible to look and see some of the daily causes that lead a person to go this far. These causes are as simple as bullying, prejudice, mentally ill, or a bad home life. Not only are the causes bad but so are the effects that they leave behind.
What are the schools doing to prepare for such a threat? Francis Q. Hoang in his abstract about school violence prevention shared the words of former FBI director, Louis Freeh, who said "It is imperative that, community by community, we find the ways to protect our children and secure for them the safe places they need to learn the hard business of growing up, to learn right from wrong, to learn to be good citizens." (Hoang, 2001). The ultimate challenge that schools today are facing is trying to provide a learning environment that is safe for all.

The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.

Students today live their day-to-day lives in constant fear of what seems inevitable. The United States has one of the highests rates of school shootings in the world. Society has become so desensitized to these shootings that they are no longer shocked to hear about another school falling victim to it. Even when students take a stand against gun violence, the only solution offered to them is a proposition to arm teachers. However, bringing more guns into a school will only further deteriorate the situation.
Mass Shootings have been pretty common in the U.S. In the past 30 years or so. According to the Congressional Research Service, there have been 78 mass shootings in the United States since 1983. The shootings have resulted in 547 deaths and 1,023 casualties. Mass shootings are only responsible for a very small percentage of deaths in the United States, but mass shootings are happening more often than ever, a mass shooting happens on average one time a month.
Guns have no role in our country schools. Schools and colleges are places of education. Students should be free to learn in an environment away from every day violence. The catastrophes that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Columbine High School, and Virginia Tech. confirm the penetrating conclusion guns have in our nation’s schools. Violence on campus has Students, Parent, and University Staff all concerned and looking for preventative measures.
The problem with gun violence in schools has existed for years, and something should be done to eliminate the problem that endangers students who attend schools every day. One recent incident with gun violence in schools occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School where several young children were killed and many others injured (Elliott 529). Also, a bombing incident in 1927 killed thirty-seven children and was likely the start of school gun violence (Elliott 529). Children, who attend schools, sometimes do not feel safe because of the problem with gun
