The denial of human rights in Ukraine and Cambodia has had huge impacts on regional and international communities. Ukraine was very independent, and Stalin wanted to remove the threat that the Ukrainians were becoming. In Cambodia, Pol Pot attempted to create a utopian Communist agrarian society. When Stalin came into power after Lenin’s death in 1924, the government was struggling to control and unwieldy empire.
Thomas Goodrich masterfully tells the story of the Lawrence Massacre with details that take the reader to chaotic streets of Lawrence, Kansas on August 21, 1863. This town of only 3,000 residents was attacked by four hundred pro-Confederate “raiders” from Missouri led by William Quantrill. The bloody massacre that ensued left over 150 citizens dead and 200 buildings destroyed. Goodrich’s account of the Lawrence Massacre epitomized how violent and barbaric guerilla fighting was in the Civil War. Goodrich used multiple primary sources such as newspapers and eye-witness testimony as well as contemporary studies done on the events at Lawrence to tell the complete story of the massacre.
The Pinjarra massacre was a battle that took place in Pinjarra, Western Australia. The massacre took place on the 28th of February, 1834. The conflict was between 60-80 Aboriginals of the Binjareb tribe, and 25 European soldiers and police officers who carried out the attack led by Governor Captain James Stirling. After the attacks on the displaced Swan River Whadjuk people and depredations on settlers by a group of the Binjareb people led by Calyute reached unacceptable levels, Stirling led his force after the party. Arriving at their camp, five members of the pursuit party were sent into the camp to arrest the suspects and the Aborigines resisted.
Barbara Diefendorf's book, The Saint Bartholomew's Day Massacre is a window into the struggle of religion and secular power during the Protestant Reformation. Beyond the social elitism, mob mentality is an ever-present force that is ignited during the Religious Wars. Differences in religion are a contributor to factional tensions. Manipulation by religious leaders and misunderstanding between the two religious sects’ practices create this religious tension. Although Protestants and Catholics share the core teachings of Christianity, a struggle for secular power, feelings of tribalism, and conflicting religious ideals not only solidify the schism between these two sects of Christianity, but escalated these tensions to bloodshed.
Matonabbee was born in 1737 at Fort Prince of Wales with his parents. After his father died, Richard Norton, the chief factor, decided to take care of him. However, after a while, a new factor was appointed and he did not take any care of Matonabbee so his family took him away and he spent 11 years at a Chipewyan village. There he learned the rituals and techniques of the Chipewyan tribe. After the 11 years, he went back to the Prince of Wales’s fort and because of the time he spent with his people, it provided him with an opportunity to learn the Cree language, and the years among his own people gave him a knowledge of the land and how to live on it.

Chang (1997) pointed out the fact that the Nanjing Massacre has been branded into the Chinese collective memory as the unhealed wound for more than half a century. On December 13 in 1937, Japanese troops began six weeks of slaughter after the siege of Nanjing City, resulting in an estimated 300,000 Chinese civilians and disarmed soldiers died. However, Japan’s refusals to apologize for its war crime in China, especially the downplaying of the Nanjing Massacre as an “incident” with relatively few causalities in Japan’s new secondary school history textbooks at the start of 2005, have become a rally point for expressions of Chinese nationalism, as demonstrated by the eruption of anti-Japan protests throughout China in 2005, 2010 and 2012, respectively
The Nanking, or Nanjing, Massacre occurred in only six weeks from 1937-1938 and has been described the “forgotten Holocaust of World War II”. The Imperial Japanese Army slaughtered an estimated 40,000 – 340,000 Chinese, tortured countless others, and committed one of the greatest mass rapes in world history in Nanking, the then capital of China. The Japanese destroyed military records in an effort to keep the massacre from becoming known worldwide. This cover-up – sometimes called The Second Rape of Nanking, a term coined by Iris Chang – is ongoing and largely carried out by a small, vocal minority of the Japanese government. The Nanking Massacre and its subsequent cover-up has led many to call the massacre a genocide; others insist the atrocities
The term genocide was created by Raphael Lemkin as a means of describing the oppression inflected on the Jews during the Holocaust. He used the ancient Greek word genos (race, tribe) and the Latin word cide (killing), together they formed the word genocide. The Bosnian genocide, also known as a gendercide, was the second worst act of heinous crimes after what the Nazis had done to the Jews, which is known as the Holocaust. The Bosnian genocide was a horrific event in history that caused the death of about 100,000 people based on their gender, religion, and ethnicity. The Republic of Yugoslavia was established in 1945 at the end of World War II.

The attack ISIS made on Paris saddened all of our hearts, one hundred and thirty lives were lost and and over a hundred were
In the four days since extremists slaughtered 129 people in Paris, millions of witnesses — present only through their computer screens — posted prayers and pictures and promised solidarity. For four hours, then five, then six, they trended Twitter hashtags like #PorteOuverte and #PrayforParis. They laid French flags over their Facebook photos and shared images by artists like Jean Jullien. And just as quickly, their posts reverted: back to quips about sports teams, viral videos, pictures with friends — now posted by little avatars striped in the French blue, white and red.
