In 2014, 1.27 billion movie tickets were sold in the United States and Canada (MMPA 2). As an employee of the local movie theater, I only encounter about .03 percent of these people. Working in a theater is a treat and a curse. On one hand you have free movies and free popcorn, and on the other hand, you have the day to day struggle of working in a customer service job. Sometimes you question why you still work there and deal with the types of people who come in.
My professional goal is to be a law attorney, specifically a trial attorney. A trial attorney is a lawyer that specializes in defending clients before, during, and after court. The reason why I think that job fits my character is because of how I handle situations in real life. I always think before I act and look beyond my problems with the potential outcome while weighing the consequences. I also enjoy a good debate.

3 experiences In this assignment, I will be explaining about three experiences and with a brief description of how I plan to integrate each with my overall themes. I will be thinking in terms of my core values, of why do I think those experiences strike a chord with me. What about these experiences makes you want to hold onto the lessons you have learned through them and take them with you into life? My thesis is through doing a 450-hour senior level practicum at Noah’s Ark and building relationships with others in Uganda, I have begun to solidify what I am most passionate about in Social Work: advocating for vulnerable children.
The Profession of Social Work as a Career Goal Graduating from high school, I have always had a passion working with kids. I never put into thought exactly what I wanted to do with kids, all I knew was that I wanted to work with kids. At first, my career choice was to become a midwife. There were several complications down the road, in which I could no longer pursue that career choice.
In the program, we have initiated to what I consider the “second phase” of 2nd year field placement. The process came by really quick, in which to a moment I felt unprepared. It is amazing to think how quick time is flying. It is simultaneously exciting but nerve-racking. This semester has been a really tough one.
I want to strive to be a better person, so I could make a change in a young person’s life and know when I go home on a night, that I made a difference and that's why I want to pursue my career as a social worker. When I realized that I wanted to be a social worker, I was in my junior year of high school. I knew I wanted to help people, children especially, but I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to go into. I thought I wanted to be in Neonatology or another profession like it. When I first witnessed a social worker, I was getting a treatment in the hospital and saw a social worker working with a family who child had a broken pelvis.
Over the semester I have learned many new aspects of social work that have helped deepen my understanding of what social work is really about. This course has taught me things that will help me become a better person and will also help me with my future working with children. Self reflection is a key skill to have when working in social work. We need to understand how we are, and our social location, influence everything we do with social work. My beliefs and values would be beneficial for being a social worker because I have a caring no judgment, personality that allows me to be a neutral and to listen to people.
The phrase: “Helping others is the way we help ourselves” from Oprah Winfrey inspired me to choose this profession. Helping people solve their problems, giving them the opportunity to let off steam and share their feelings through confidential talks makes this profession unique and exceptional. I have abilities and values, such as: persistence, kindness, and loyalty, that are highlighted and essential to this job. Also, I have a plan that I will already start following it because this is what I want to be.
