In the story The Juvie Three by Gordon Korman, Gecko and Rueben are two child criminals at which they stole a car and now is a getaway car. Gecko soon gets caught by the police and has been sent to the Jerome Atchison Juvenile Detention Center due to his crimes that his has done. Gecko’s lifestyle at the Detention Center did not last long because he has been beat by the other people there. So a man at the Detention Center gave Gecko a chance to live a normal life again.
In Terrance Hayes’s poem “Mr. T-,” the speaker presents the actor Laurence Tureaud, also known as Mr. T, as a sellout and an unfavorable role model for the African American youth for constantly playing negative, stereotypical roles for a black man in order to achieve success in Hollywood. The speaker also characterizes Mr. T as enormous and simple-minded with a demeanor similar to an animal’s to further his mockery of Mr. T’s career. The speaker begins his commentary on the actor’s career by suggesting that The A-Team, the show Mr. T stars in, is racist by mentioning how he is “Sometimes drugged / & duffled (by white men) in a cockpit,” which seems to draw illusions to white men capturing and transporting slaves to new territories during the time of the slave trade (4-5).

Chamberlain coming in to a leadership position after acting as a professor led to him becoming a great leader through his personality characteristics. For all the great strengths of these heroes it’s important to remember they’re still human. Humans are naturally flawed beings, in fact their exaggerated strengths seem to make their weaknesses more dramatic. These fatal flaws constantly get between the hero and reaching his goal contributing to setbacks, loss, and sometimes death. Odysseus’s fatal flaw is pride, usually in himself he lets his positive regard for his own abilities and wants get in the way of his decision making process. One example is his military leadership, he makes both very good and very bad military decisions in his time commanding men, Odysseus is, as Homer says,” polytropos, many-sided, mixed, multi-colored, piebald.
We all know and love science fiction books such as the Giver, the Hunger Games, Divergent, and much more. What we do not know about these books is that their is a deeper meaning, trying to teach us about a flaw in our society. In the Giver and Harrison Bergeron their are these themes that are trying to teach us about our world. The Giver and Harrison Bergeron’s themes are commentary on our unwillingness to accept our differences, and constant worry of making wrong decisions.
A leader is a person with the power or the ability to lead others, this relates to being a hero because a hero cannot do all work on their own. A hero must have help from others who are willing to follow them and help them with their final goal. This is shown is John C. Maxwell’s quote “A leader is someone who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way”. What he means is that someone who is considered a leader can know the right path, and be able to help someone else on that same path, and continue on that path with that person.
I have developed leadership qualities when my Tae Kwon Do coach trusted me to lead our team during national championships. This has led me to then hold various leadership positions in undergraduate and dental school clubs. Moreover, my critical thinking abilities have excelled from being a mathematics and physics tutor. The novel Mr. Was, by Pete Hautman, is a story about a boy named Jack, and his adventures throughout his time traveling life. Along the way he encounters Scud, who eventually becomes his best friend, as well as his worst enemy. Scud is a teen living in the year of 1941, who is very adventurous and rebellious. In T. Coraghessan Boyle’s short story “The Hit Man”, underlying psychoanalytical themes are present that display an allusion to struggles in human life. The main themes present in this story are dysfunctional behavior, displacement, and an insecure sense of self. Readers see the main character, The Hit Man, go through his entire life struggling with insecurity and other dysfunctional behavior. During this timeline, his dysfunctional behavior represents common struggles and conflicts that occur in common day-to-day life. Relationships with his parents and classmates and also academic struggles seems to be the main contribution to the way this character is represented.
The novel Schooled by Gordon Korman is a fantastically fabulous story. The main character is named Capricorn Anderson or Cap for short. He is a flower child,or hippie, and to his luck,Cap gets dropped in the real world at a real school for the first time because his grandmother, Rain,broke her hip. This caused Cap to drive her to the hospital where they said that Cap couldn’t go back to Garland,( The alternative farm commune that Rain has owned since the 60’s to keep the ways of the hippies alive for all this time.)Cap is very different from the other students at C Average because he practices tai chi, a kind martial arts,hadn’t heard of most modern technologies,or wedgies,and is filled with hippie wisdom,causing him to be like an alien compared to the other students.
