This paper will discuss the interpretation of Matthew 10. It will concentrate on the two different contexts which were identified in Matthew 10. The first context was when Jesus taught His twelve disciples about taking the role of the apostles. This letter is also known as a type of ordination sermon from Jesus to His disciples. He gave them instructions and directions about being apostles. The second context is written by Matthew to the Christian-Jewish congregations at that time. Matthew was a tax collector who left his job to follow Jesus as His disciple. Matthew recorded and wrote the dialogue that he heard from Jesus using his perspective. The reason Jesus insisted His disciples to go only to the lost descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and not to the Gentiles (the Samaritans) is that the discourse that Jesus preached to His disciples happened before the cross and the resurrection day.
