The Book of Matthew is the first book of the New Testament. It is said to be a good transition from the Old Testament to the New Testament. A large portion of the Book of Matthew is narrative but it includes a lot of dialogue. There are several different thoughts about when the book was written and who wrote it. Some scholars believe that the Book of Matthew relies mostly on the Book of Mark so it could not be written by someone who was an eyewitness to the life of Jesus Christ. Others believe that the story was written by a Jewish scholar between 80 and 90 A.D. Christians today believe that the book was written by Matthew, a former tax collector and one of the twelve disciples of Jesus.
The book tells the story of Jesus’ life beginning with his birth all the way to his crucifixion. The story tells of how and when Jesus became a minister and began to have followers who were willing to assist him in his ministry. Jesus’ most important sermons are shared in the book of Matthew and many parables that Jesus used to show Christians during his time how to live. There were many followers of Jesus who after changing their lives became important characters in other books of the Bible. It is the burial place of Ruth, a strong woman of God in the Old Testament and the birthplace of the mighty King David. Bethlehem is also significant because it was the place that Micah believed that the Messiah would be born.
