Maturity comes with age and the people who surround you with knowledge. To become mature you must undergo mentorship and learn from the experiences of those around you. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the two young lovers let their immaturity, and poor guidance lead to rash decisions and ultimately their deaths. Romeo’s thoughtless actions mirror his immature behavior. Juliet craves the thought of independence, she lacks knowing which advice given to her was right. Because of this, she makes childish decisions with and for Romeo. Romeo makes decisions that are influenced by his “need for love.” His desire for young love guides him toward immature, reckless decisions. She gives her advice that the parents would want for Juliet, rather than what Juliet wants for herself, which would lead her to confusion about herself, and the future decisions she would have to make. Likewise, Juliet would receive a lack of communication from her “mentors.” Often the adults in Juliet's life would keep things from her, whether it was on purpose or not. Juliet makes a plan with Friar Lawrance, he was supposed to deliver a letter to Romeo regarding the plan, but it gets lost, Friar Lawrance says, “ Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood, the letter was not nice but full of charge, Of dear import, and the neglecting it may do much danger…” Friar Lawrance does not tell Juliet that Romeo never recieved letter, which results in Juliet being asleep from the potion, and Romeo soon taking his life.
