The Life Of A Phenomenal Role Model
Have you ever just sat & wondered about where & how these famous role models came about? Many probably wonder who Maya Angelou really is & how she came to become the wonderfully known woman that she is. Maya biologically Angelou Marguerite Annie Johnson born on April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri & then moved to Long Beach, California. Maya was sent to live with her grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas caused by her parents splitting up when she was 3. Maya experienced racial discrimination because of her strong beliefs in African American Culture. Maya went to Mission High School where she won a scholarship for dance and drama. It helped her determine her path to political activism. Maya later dropped out of school to become the very first black female cable car conductor of San Francisco. Maya told her brother but was too ashamed to tell an adult involved in her life. Later, she received new that an uncle of hers had killed the attacker. Maya thought that her words had gotten him killed & she stopped talking for five complete years. She became pregnant in her last year of high school & graduated just a few weeks before giving birth to a healthy baby boy named Guy. Maya was determined & kept pushing no matter the pressure she was under.
Maya soon spoke again at the age of 13. Later, rejoined her mother & brother in San Francisco. She went out on her own at 16 & Maya took on the difficultly of being a single mother. Maya took care of herself & her child by working as a waitress & cook. No matter the circumstances she never gave up on her dreams of music, dance, performance and poetry. Maya’s hard work paid off in the long run. Maya then pushed herself in life to reached her goals and become the well-known woman that she was made out to
