My friends, Heck Tate is a lazy man who poorly investigated Mayella Ewell’s abusement and made two men die for his lazy ways. PARTIES Sheriff Heck Tate is a lazy man. Bob Ewell fetched Sheriff Heck Tate out of his office to go down to the Ewell homestead.
Tom robinson and scottsboro boys was accused of rapping white women. Most people already think that they were the ones to do it. They think that only because of the color of their skin. The main point of this paper is about all the accusations and mayella and the girls. Also how the lawyers that helped them.
This was just one example of what the African-Americans went through. There are many more stories like this
(Doc. A) Therefore, because of her class, the community looks down upon her and her family. After winning the trial with Mayella accusing Tom Robinson, an African American of rape, Mayella’s father, Bob Ewell, believed that he would be viewed as a hero but all he received was “okay, we’ll convict this Negro but get back to your dump.” (Doc.
This past week, without doubt, has been nothing short of a heated one here in Maycomb. As of recent, Thomas Robinson, a twenty-five year-old Negro, was put on trial for the accused rape of nineteen year-old Mayella Ewell. Judge Taylor covered the trial, with Solicitor Mr. Gilmer prosecuting, and Mr. Finch covering defense for Mr. Robinson. The trial begun with Sheriff Heck Tate retelling his account. He details Mr. Ewell reporting the rape of Mayella Ewell on November 21st, her sustained injuries, including a choice of not calling a doctor due to financial issues.
Then some people thought that Tom was innocent but the judge decided to make Tom go to prison. In the book it said that Mayella hugged and kissed Tom on the cheek. From this I can infer that Mayella is desperate and can get away with this because Tom Robinson is a black person. This reminds me of a couple southern movies I’ve watched where black people are always the first to suspect because of their color. Tom Robinson on trial for his life said Bob Ewell yelled “whore I’ll kill you” when he saw Mayella kiss Tom from the window.
The beating of Mayella was a consequence of Bob Ewell’s deep prejudice that black men are inferior to white men. As a result of one man’s pride a young woman put in a horrible position. The conflict makes it is easy to see the need for our world to understand and control our pride in instances where it is at stake. Another conflict in the novel is centered around a person’s pride being broken, as Jem loses his temper with Mrs. Dubose. Mrs.Dubose made rude remarks about Scout's “overalls” and his fathers “Lawing for” Black people(117).
Ewell takes a stand to defend Mayella in the courtroom when Atticus starts to realize that Mr. Ewell could’ve been guilty for Mayella’s rape. Atticus tries to prove that Mr. Ewell is guilty by intentionally asking Mayella questions, but Mayella refuses to prove that Mr. Ewell is guilty and responds to this saying “I got somethin’ to say an’ then I ain’t gonna say no more. That nigger yonder took advantage of me.. “ (Lee 251). This quote symbolizes the judgement that Mayella made on Tom Robinson to prove that he’s guilty.
Mayella lives with her father and her smaller siblings. In the book Mayella Ewell has accused Tom Robinson,a black poor man with a left crippled arm of raping her. During this time blacks were in a lower class than all whites. Atticus Finch has two children,Scout and Jem. Atticus Finch,Tom Robinson’s lawyer finds evidence that Tom is innocent.
Another quote shows how wrong Mr. Ewell acts:”I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin’ on my Mayella!” Mr. Ewell (Lee, 92) In the novel he accuses an innocent man of raping and hitting his child Mayella however that is not the true story he because is lying, he hit her. While Atticus chooses the right moral dilemma and he also has humanity: "Which, gentlemen, we know is in itself a lie as black as Tom Robinson's skin, a lie I do not have to point out to you. You know the truth, and the truth is this: some Negroes lie, some Negroes are immoral, some Negro men are not to be trusted around women—black or white.
Was shot the 23rd August. Mr Heck Tate gives his account of what happened He describes the injuries Bob Ewell gives his account of what happened Ewell agrees with the description of the injuries Tate gave Atticus asks Ewell if he can read and write, showing Ewell is ambidextrous.
The testimonies reveal how deep-rooted the racism within Maycomb runs, as it is present even in court rulings and how casually present it is. The court is taking place, and the order of prosecutor’s witnesses who are: Mr. Heck Tate, the sheriff; Mr. Bob Ewell, Mayella’s father; and Mayella Ewell, the one who is accusing Tom Robinson of raping her. When it’s Mr. Ewell’s turn to speak, he does so with many racial slurs and slang embedded in his accusations. When relaying what he saw to the jury, he points at Tom and yells “―I seen that black n*gger yonder ruttin’ on my Mayella!” Mr. Ewell, who, although, has never been a part of a court case or viewed one, doesn’t truly care, or notice, that so far into the formal case, not one person has used racial slang to talk about Tom, and uses the term n*gger quite casually.
In the book Allegory of the Cave, Socrates was talking with Glaucon and he began to explain how light and darkness are found within the nature of a human. In order to provide a better explanation Socrates created an image. This image was a dark den in which many humans were chained from the hands, feet and neck since they were children. These chains kept these prisoners from moving and allowed them to see only a wall of the den. Behind them there was fire, which was the only source of light in the place.
In the novel: To Kill A Mockingbird, Mayella Ewell, a poor white woman, accused Tom Robinson, an African American, of rape. The Ewell’s are very indigent and her father, Bob Ewell, gets drunk and abuses Mayella. Since Mayella is very poor, this makes her not so powerful. In Maycomb, Alabama, A poor white woman named Mayella Ewell who lives behind the town garbage dump, accuses Tom Robinson, an African American, of rape.
No matter the colour of the defendant’s skin, a white woman should not hold him accountable for an undeserved charge as a result of guilt and shame. Atticus appeals for racial equality, by accentuating that Mayella Ewell is guilty of a compassionate moment with a black man, and that it is not an excuse for a rape charge. This closing argument has been recognised as one of the 20th centuries most impressive messages in emphasising racial justice and a move for an integrated
