This past week has been rough for the Robinson family. After a racist jury choose to make an innocent man guilty things went from bad to worse. Atticus Finch was chosen to defend Tom Robinson. This particular case was against Mayella Ewell, a white woman. As a black man Tom was already at a disadvantage.
20-year old , Chelsea Steiniger accused Mark Weiner, a Caucasian 52-year old male, of kidnapping and sexually assaulting her back in 2012. Wiener had seen Chelsea walking home through a convenience store’s parking lot after her boyfriend had kicked her out of his house and upon seeing her, Weiner drove Chelsea to her mother’s house. She was texting her boyfriend demeaning texts posing as her kidnapper, Mark. Her boyfriend had called the police when he received the demeaning text messages Chelsea had sent him.

The trial that was held two days ago included an innocent man, Mr. Tom Robinson, being tried in court for rape and abuse. Miss Mayella was badly beaten on the right side of her face. For Mr. Robinson to beat Ms. Ewell on the right side of her face it would require him using his left hand. When Tom was a boy, he got his arm caught in a cotton gin while working for Mr. Dolphin Raymond. When his arm got caught in the gin, it made his left arm twelve inches shorter than his right.
The Biased Trial of Tom Robinson Tom never would've been guilty if it weren't for a biased courtroom. In To Kill a Mockingbird Tom Robinson is accused of raping a young white girl named Mayella. Once Atticus gets the news that he will be defending Tom Robinson, who is accused of rape, he is very stressed until the end of the trial. Harper Lee shows this when she says, “It’s this Tom Robinson case that’s worrying him to death...”
Tom Robinson’s Trail In To Kill a Mocking bird by Harper Lee, Mayella accused Tom Robinson of rape. They go to trial but ran into some problems. I believe Tom Robinson did not get a fair trial. Although Tom got his time to talk, everybody is still against him because of his race.
The United States prides itself on the principle of equality. In the Declaration of Independence, the very basis of the nation, it states "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Despite this promise, Maycomb county lacks the humanity and fairness that America promises. Not only do the whites of the county show obvious contempt for the blacks, but they are willing to go as far as to murder one, Tom Robinson, in cold blood, depriving him of the basic right promised by our great country. Tom deserves the appeal due to the biased jury, the insubstantial physical evidence given by Mayella, Mr. Ewell, and Heck Tate, and the
Tom Robinson has been falsely accused of rape over a father covering up his abuse. But because of his skin color he lost his defense and had been sentenced to death. Tom is a kind nice man and has been set to court because of Bob Ewell accusing him of raping his daughter. He has brought his daughter to his side but the reality is, Bob Ewell abused his daughter Mayela and putting the blame on Bob because he is black man and knows he will win in court. The fact that Tom is a black man and Bob is a white man, it would be for sure that Bob would win because of his race.
Today was the day of Tom Robinson's trial. I prepared all my evidence and I knew I was ready for the battle. I told the Judge that there was no evidence to connect Tom to this crime. There was evidence that a crime was committed, but not that he was involved in it. Also, all the injuries were located on Mayella's left side.
In chapters 17-24 in To Kill A Mockingbird, Jem and Scout observe their father in court defending Tom Robinson (a black man) from the accusations of the Bob Ewell (a "low grade ' ' white man). Bob Ewell accuses Tom Robinson of sexually assaulting his daughter; Mayella Ewell. Before the fate of Tom Robinson is given in the possession of the jury, both lawyers have a final attempt at convincing the jury that Tom Robinson should/shouldn 't be prosecuted. Atticus starts off his closing remarks with the fact that he believes that the case should have never come to trial and that the case "”is as simple as black and white."
People judge Atticus because he is defending a black man. Atticus says “Tom Robinson is a decent man.” Tom Robinson deserves a fair trial says Atticus, just because he is black doesn 't mean he shouldn 't have a fair trial. People say he does not discipline his kids right. People say that Scout is doing bad things.
Tom was not looked at the same in court because he was a colored man and in his society, it was not expected for a colored man to win. In Atticus last statement he said, “Which, gentlemen, we know is in itself a lie as black as Tom Robinson’s skin, a lie I don't not have to point out to you. You know the truth, and the truth is this: some Negroes lie,
