There were other ways to end the chase and although there were threats I did not see Leija’s current actions rising to the degree of officers using deadly force. I understand his concern about the officers laying the spike strips but those officers were trained in the application and were also at an overpass that was able to provide them solid cover from the oncoming vehicles. In the end I can understand the officer’s thought process but do not believe he should be using a tactic he was not trained in or never used before. I think this serves as a reminder to recruits and other officers that we should employ other options before deadly force unless it is currently apparent that there are no other options available other than deadly force. I do not want officers to hesitate in deadly force situations but in this situation they already had another option deployed and ready and he should have used that option
However Cameron Awbrey was shouting at Officer West showing signs of being uncontrolled that made Officer West feel threatened, as anyone would feel, and arrested Cameron. Showing that West did not exhibit police misconduct rather he did it all in good faith based upon an erroneous warrant because Officer West ONLY arrested Cameron and then brought Cameron back after realizing that the warrant was
By appropriately judging the needs of the department and city as a whole Chief Davis was able to make a better received change that united the city as well as the department. This is counterintuitive to me as I would think that an internal focus would be better for lasting change but in this case the needs of the city and department dictated outreach and sharing of ideas. Chief Davis embraces one of the most fundamental aspects of a police executive, reaching out and securing support/resources required for successful performance (Cordner, 2016). Filling the role of Chief includes taking on the role of the political go mediator concerning the community/government and the police department itself. Chief Davis must garner support from the city who at this point thought of the police as an “occupying army” rather than an intricate necessary part of a successful thriving Lowell community.
Policing has seen much progress. Some reforms do work, and some types of abuse have been reduced. Today, among both police officials and rank and file officers, it is widely recognized that police brutality hinders good law enforcement. Whenever a new case of police brutality comes to light, people in the community must respond politically to ensure justice for the victim. These actions must be timely to be truly effective.
Due to the police “brotherhood” they took the situation lightly and turned it into a mess. No proper questioning or evidence was collected due this facet. A major factor was that Officer Banks was treated has if he was innocent a hundred and ten percent. The sheriff’s department should have questioned him and detained him like any other case.

In the last 10 years, we saw many conflicts between police officers and citizens, which result into dead of innocent people and it was not a good image for police department. One of the issues is that the law enforcement gives the police
The first thing that needs to occur is a public apology by both officers and suspension from active duty while a thorough Internal Affairs investigation is conducted. Additionally, Officer Taylor and Officer Zavala will undergo remedial training in de-escalation techniques, verbal communication techniques, and the use of force continuum. If their behavior was to go unaddressed then it has the potential to further hurt police and citizen relations in that community. According to Davids (2014), “... improper conduct itself represents an abuse of the public office that is held by the person concerned — it violates both the public trust that attaches to the holding of public office and the integrity that is expected of those occupying such positions” (p. 90). In addition, the police department will be looking into getting a federal grant for the distribution of body cameras and tasers for all patrol officers.
One common opinion is that officers should not use more force than is necessary or reasonable, and even then, that force should be used only as a last resort. “Police use force to affect civilians’ conduct. On a day-to-day basis, they do so most often by employing the least degree of force available to them, their mere presence. Cops wear uniforms and drive distinctly marked cars so that, without saying a word, they may have an effect on citizens’ behavior” (Fyfe, 38). When an officer’s presence fails to fulfill the desired conduct, the next course of action for said officer would be verbalization.

3.1 SWOT Understanding the real work of a public relations practitioner requires much analysis, thus a brief SWOT analysis has been created to showcase my understanding of Charmaine’s role at SNC Lavalin. The strengths of a PR practitioner lies in his/her ability to manipulate the reputation of an organization, to build relationships and network with people, to have outstanding written and oral communication skills that represent your company, and to be the individual with the ability to save your organization from a crisis. Contrary to strengths, some of the weaknesses of working in PR stem from its heavy workload, consistent pressure to sustain relationships that are growing thin, face rejection from the media or public at times, and flocculating
Law enforcement and correctional officers daily cope with delicate situations. When faced with an unique, possible deadly situation requires an immediate and appropriate response. We have learned thus far that law enforcement and correctional officers employ a great amount of discretion on a daily basis when performing their duties. Misuse of discretion can lead to society questioning police tactics and policies. Racial profiling is an illustration of misuse of discretion.
The officers failed to consider the broader context and potential ramifications of their actions. It could be argued that alternatives, such as engaging with the youths, building a rapport and educating them, as well as treating them with respect and fairness, rather than escalating the situation and disparaging the character of the youths, could allow officers to not only comply with policy and legislation, but also more effectively police their community by building positive relationships, channels of communication, and reduction of future crime (Chan, Bargen, Luke and Clancey 1997). However, these alternatives require the appropriate use of discretion which the officers failed to
Officers abuse their power and most of the time get away with it which is not right, they are figures that the public trust to enforce the laws and keep them
There is a misunderstanding with how police deal with intense situations. The public don’t understand that we only have a split second to make a decision in an intense situation like this. The media uses negative news to attract more attention. People don’t get all the facts, they only know one side of the story. He gives the example of the incident
