Imagine waking up one day in a dark gloomy elevator with no memory of your life before. James Dashner's dystopian novel The Maze Runner This story takes place inside a maze, a maze that is impossible to get out of. Thomas wakes up in an elevator and soon realizes he will never go home again. When he first gets in the maze he has no memory of his life before getting in the maze as well as the other kids in the maze. Without knowing many people in the maze Thomas has to figure things out and try to fit in with the people. After a couple of days of being in the maze, he jumped into the make to save Alby and Mihno who were running in the maze earlier in the day. Alby and Mihno are “maze runners” which means they have to enter the maze every day and try to escape. But, on this particular day, Alby had been stung by a griever and seemed to be taking too long to escape. Despite knowing the dangers he would face, Thomas enters the maze to try and help his friends. “Thomas knew he had no choice. He moved forward. He squeezed past the connecting rods at the last second and stepped into the maze” (112). This is a scary moment. Thomas’s friends are in grave danger and he has to make a difficult choice - risk his own life or let his friends die. At this moment in the book all of the glade citizens are in the maze for their final fight against the grievers. On this particular day, the “maze runners” have found a way to escape the maze and are bringing everyone in the glade to escape. Knowing the dangers of fighting a pack of grievers, Alby started running the wind rushing through his hair and leaped into the pack of grievers. “Alby took off running-he headed straight for the pack of griever between him and the cliff” (333). This was a very scary moment for Alby and all the people watching. Alby gave his life to save the glade citizens so Thomas and Teresa would escape. Even though Alby knew he was going to die he still jumped into the pack of grievers to save the citizens from getting
