The Mc Gill Model of nursing is an example of a strengths based family assessment model that can be used in the community. This model focuses on the family as a client that is able to solve any problems and cope with the health care situation by using their own strengths and knowledge (Feeley & Gottlieb, 2000). The Mc Gill model is best used in a scenario where a family member has a change in which alters the way in which the live, for example child being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. With the use of this model the CHN could assess the family on diabetic diet meal planning and preparation and how the family monitors the child’s blood sugar levels and insulin.
