Through this course I have learned that history taking and performing a physical assessment and being able to differentiate normal from abnormal findings is one of the most important roles of a health care provider. If an accurate physical assessment is not performed, whether for baseline data or when the patient’s condition changes, then the patient is not receiving the level of competent care he deserves. Family Nurse Practitioners are expected to safely provide and meet the healthcare needs of people across the lifespan and diverse cultures through evidence-based care. Assessment is the first step in the process of individualizing care. To site a few examples, it is important to know a patient’s allergies to medications or food to avoid
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners in the Army are very important and vital to the world. Family Assessment Tools The Calgary Family Assessment Model (CFAM) is a renowned assessment tool used by nurses in conceptualizing and organizing data gathered while working with families(Wright and Leahey, 2009). It is a useful tool both for compiling data for a family assessment as well as in assisting families to deal with specific health issues. The CFAM has three main categories namely: structural which encompasses the internal, external and contextual; developmental which includes stages, tasks and attachments; and functional level which hasthe instrumental (daily living activities) and expressive which includes communication, problem solving, roles, power, beliefs, alliances and coalition(John & Flowers, 2009).
emplate Observations (Similarities/Differences) Ethics My future role is Family Nurse Practitioner. Ethics deals with the actions of being right and wrong and what is good and what is bad (Barker & Denisco, 2016). The ethical guidelines provide advanced practice nurses their job description within the scope of practice and prevent them from underdoing or overdoing their job. My comparison role is as Graduate Nurse.
In studying Registered Nursing one will find that they have to be compassionate and want to care for others. Registered Nurses assist physicians with suffering patients of any medical condition. They help to decide the patient’s medicine, treatment, recovery, and educate the them and their families on post-medical treatment. They need to have bedside manner, and be able to prepare patients for surgery. Registered Nursing careers range anywhere from critical care, oncology, mental health, to an everyday school nurse.
As a family nurse, it is important to focus on the family as a whole and ensure each member is addressed. The nurse can collaborate with the family to formulate a plan for what are the most important issues to work on and create goals. The family nurse should always be aware and value the racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic differences of the family (Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, & Harmon Hanson, 2015). It is vital that the strong relationships with the church, extended family, and counselor be supported throughout the plan of care. The nurse could encourage A.L. to seek another primary care physician, specialist, or holistic practitioner who would address her emotional needs as well as her physical needs.

My passion for nursing practice defies description; leading to the reason I am opting to pursue a higher level of education in nursing. The George Washington University School of nursing has one of the highly ranked master’s programs in the country, which offers a competitive curriculum and highly defined leadership skills that integrates technology into learning. It is therefore my desire to pursue an advance education at this facility because it prepares practitioners to become great clinicians ready to solve real-world clinical problems. Moreover, the opportunity to pursue a degree in this facility will afford me the ability to be a competent and highly efficient family nurse practitioner; that will serve the community and mostly the underserved. I am the last child in a family of eight that has aspired to pursue my education at the graduate level.
Large patient loads combined with a stressful work environment affects nurses’ abilities to provide quality healthcare. Patient safety should never be compromised. It is our responsibility to learn from research and improve our current nurse staffing ratios. Nurse staffing is key and affects all other outcomes. Without nurses administering the right treatment at the right time to the right patients, all other healthcare interventions are not effective.
Critical thinking is when you think of an idea and then think about that. When you have this idea, critical thinking is pulling parts of the idea and reconstructing it. Family centered care (FCC) involves caring for the entire family as a whole (Hammarstand & Loewen, 2013). This approach is appropriate when caring for a new mother, father and baby, which relates to a clinical experience I was involved in. The purpose of this paper is to link a true clinical experience to the family centered care nursing approach. In writing this paper I hope to reflect on my prejudgment feelings and be able to not have preconceived feelings regardless of the patient situation. This paper will discuss a clinical context in which family centered care was utilized, the definition of and concepts of family centered care, and a personal reflection pertaining to the clinical situation.

I just completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and look forward to exploring nursing theory, evidence-based practice and leadership even further in the advance practice curriculum. I am pursuing family nurse practitioner because it will allow me to be more versatile in my nursing skills and serve a larger patient population. There has been a focus on primary care medicine since the Affordable Care Act; resulting in a larger need for nurse practitioners required to care for this patient population. I have been granted an opportunity to advance my career and I am more than ready to take on the added responsibilities and handle treatment plans autonomously, as well as learning additional skills such as diagnosing and prescribing medications. By obtaining my graduate level education my clinical judgment would be enhanced to improve safety, quality of care and patient outcomes substantially.
