There are things in this world that people don’t want to believe, but because they are scared people jump to conclusions to protect themselves. Many people in Salem are being accused of taking part in witchcraft, a false accusation. The Crucible by Arthur Miller. In Salem, Massachusetts there was a group of girls that were caught dancing and singing in a weird language. The girls were questioned in taking part in witchcraft. The girls didn’t want to confess to what they were really doing, so they accused many people of being seen with the devil. The town brought in a witchcraft expert to help with the witch hunt. The problem is that John Proctor wants to keep his life so he agrees to sign a document that says that he confesses to taking part in witchcraft. In the book it states, “Proctor has just finished signing.” (142) John then thinks against it and changes his decision to make himself not look bad. “I have signed it. You have seen me. It is done! You have no need for this.” In this seen it is with Danforth, Parris, Elizabeth, and Proctor. Proctor has just signed the document saying that he confesses to witchcraft.
