Mean girls is about Cady Heron going to public school for the first time, but where most start public school in kindergarten she is a junior in high school. She has to navigate the different social groups to find out where she fits in. Cady was home schooled and lived in Africa her entire life until now because her parents were zoologists. Cady experiences the different social roles, statuses, interactions, and conflicts. Cady’s first day of high school at North Shore was overwhelming and crazy; and it went by quite quickly. There were many different groups that Cady had to observe and figure out which one she belonged to. Cady only ever had the role of being a daughter which was an ascribed status and a homeschooled student which was an achieved status. Her primary group has always only been her parents. That changed when she befriended Janice and Damian where she became their friend and this gave her a new achieved status. Her new friends was her secondary group. Janice didn’t like the plastics because their ring leader, Regina George use to be her friend, but then started spreading rumors about her. So, Cady unintentionally got invited to join the plastics during lunch and had a way into their group, Janice saw this as an opportunity to find out more about them, so even though Cady was unsure she went along with it. This shows accomodation because Cady is giving up things such as she loses her innocent self, but she gains popularity and makes Janice happy. Cady’s in-group is the plastics, mathletes, and the actual human beings. Out-groups for Cady would be the jocks and band geeks. Then Cady met Aaron Samuel's who just happened to be Regina's ex. This created conflict because Cady really liked Aaron and he had invited her to a Halloween party. Regina hearing of this from Gretchen, promised Cady
