In today’s society, we can conclude that Sociology is just about common everywhere in the world. Believe it or not, we see it in our movies, books, and in real life. Sociology can be compared or brought up in our daily lives in what we do, making it a part of us. In our sociology class, we have to select a current event, global issue, or movie that deals with the context of sociology, and with that, I am going to analyze the sociological issues in one of my favorite movies of all time Mean girls. Mean girls is a real life issue movie that hits on certain sociological issues that can create conflict. Also it will be a movie that will be remembered for views on society. Stereotype can be generalized as a preconceived notion, especially about a group of people. The movie uses a stereotype name for the popular girls as “plastics”. Also, the one thing I pinpointed out was an example of social interaction. For instance in the movie, one of the characters named Cady is hanging around some friends and gets peer pressured into sitting at the popular table also known as the “Plastics” table but gets questioned because the girls did know her or seen her in the school before because she was a transfer student. The thing was that the popular girls knows everyone in the school, so that caused a social interaction. Further along the movie kinds of deals with racial stereotype when Cady begins to tell the girls that she is a transfer student from Africa. After that came with a remark from one of the plastic girls stating, “If you’re from Africa then why you are white.” This represents the stereotype of most Americans thinking that the notion of people that are from Africa are African Americans. Not only does it happen in race, but in other cultures too. In one scene of the movie, the girls pulled out a map of the cafeteria they have designed themselves to determine who sits with who, and that is when it dawns to most people that whether you like it or not, people are characterized in certain places and are placed categories based on their culture or race. The different type of cliques in the high school were the football jocks, Asian nerds, black cliques, and many more. In addition, the movie represents a whole opposite description of a high school teenage girl in caddy because as I saw in the movie, you could tell that cady’s culture was bizarre from the typical high school girl because she does not engage in normal teenage girl traits like not wearing makeup, and not dressing
