The song “Love Yourz,” By J Cole is a song that was made to be more felt than heard. He put lots of meaning into the lyrics and gave a reason for it. When you take these lyrics at face value, it gives a common message of cherishing what you have and especially who you have. J Cole states, “For what’s money without happiness? Or hard times without people you love?” This is directly said that physical possessions are not what matter but the people in your life and the happiness you have in your life. Another meaningful verse is, “Always gon’ be a bigger house somewhere, but feel me, long as the people in that love you dearly, always gon’ be a whip that’s better than the one you got, always gon’ be some clothes that’s fresher than the ones you rock,” the artist is stating that no matter how successful you are in life there will always be someone with more, so value what you do …show more content…

Some backstory on Jermaine Lamarr Cole, he had a rough upbringing with a father that left and living in a trailer park and still barely being able to afford necessities. As life went on had issues with terrible new father figures his mom was involved with, but eventually he fell in love with music and achieved a university degree in communications. Through his upbringing he believed that as life went on, if he made it big that he would truly be happy in life. But when he got this fame and riches, he realized it is not what made him happy. He states in the song, “Think being broke was better, now I don’t mean that phrase with no disrespect.” In interviews Jermain utters that he never realized that being genuinely happy was being with his family and his loved ones, so he looked back to when that was all he had and wished he were back there. He wrote the song to convey how he felt and the message that you should love what you have and that trying to attain riches will not give you that
