In the novel Unwind, written by Neal Shusterman, the novel tells the story of three teenagers who merge and work together in order to survive against a society that is hunting them down to harvest and reuse their body parts as a solution to incurable diseases and a ‘well put together family’ from the outside. One moment in the novel where we see the most meaningful change is right after Connor and Risa escape the school after Lev betrays them. This is a meaningful change because it has an affect on the personality of Connor and Lev which help them to understand the theme of making choices based off of your own opinion not others and to be what you want to be not what others want you to be.

As Connor and Risa are leaving the school with the teacher Lev is trying to chase after them after he realises the mistake he has made, “ she turns to see Lev -he's spotted them - and although he is far away he is quickly working his way toward them in the crowd.” This shows that Connor and Risa are getting away from him fast. This impacts Lev because he had then realised he needs to change his thought and to become his own person because if he has the same mindset as others, people will begin to hate him. This helps the readers to understand that Lev was given beliefs that he had no choice of keeping, he only had a small idea of what it was but believed it because he trusted the people he loved. This shows the readers that it's okay to change who you are because if you don't know who you really are it could eventually ruin your relationships in the future, because you can't know someone else if you don't know yourself. An important message that this section of the novel symbolises that is also significant is that the Shusterman is trying to tell the readers not to follow and think like everyone else even though if you've been told something all your life it doesn't mean it's right. It also tells the readers to express your own expression of words and you can make your own choices and each choice will change who you are as a person just like Connor and Lev.
